|
|
Ok...Ive been kinda searching for the past few years for a Bus built on my birthday, Nov 29th 1966. I just think it would be cool to have that connection to a car and it sounds like a fun challenge. It would obviously be a 67 model, I dont really have any preference for model and condition isnt a big deal either as I can restore it if it needs it.
The M code would show the date of course but since many Busses seem to be missing the M code tag I have tried to narrow down vin numbers to a range that it might be between. I found a November 28th Bus with the last 6 digits 064497 and I found a November 30th Bus with the last 6 digits of 064664, so it would have to be between there somewhere, however I have no clue what time of the day either of these Busses were built which could throw things off a little.
Its been a solitary search so far, and kinda half hearted, but now that my 40th B-day just passed Im thinking maybe I'd ask for a little help.
So..what do you all think? You 67 owners out there..can you go take a peek? _________________ Cheers!

Randy- We have the same birthday, although mine is in 1971. I really don't want a Bus from my birthdate though, I've got better taste than that. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

My Westy is 2 days younger than my wife and 31 days older than me. We all turned 40 this past summer. I doubt I'll find another Bus that close in age, so I think we'll keep it. |

from the vintagebus.com registry:
287063758 28 N
237064497 28 N *
237065552 29 N *
257064664 30 N
237064866 30 N
247064958 30 N
I think that at least one of those entries, and probably two have erroneous information (I marked them with a *). they would tend to indicate that only 167 buses were built on the 29th of november '66. judging from the progression of chassis number surrounding those dates, and not counting the entries that I flagged, I would say that you are looking for one in the 2_7064000 - 2_7064500 range. maybe a little more or a little less. _________________ .

So true. I'm also a fall 1971'er, and even though I will admit to owning bays, never a 1972!
My crew cab is 4 days off from my birthday (+ 10 years to make it more respectable)

Mine comes close.
The panel is build 1-12-1966 and left the factory 8-12-1966.
Good luck with your search.

I've been searching for quite a while now for a bus or rag bug built on my wifes b-day, 11-19-57. Came within a day or two on the bus once and did find a car that should have been built on that day but the guy had already 'restored' the bug with some big motor and hence wanted big $$.
I've been searching for either a notch or t34 ghia built on my b-day 9-1-64. A few days after I started that search several years ago, I found a notch built on the 3rd of september but I passed.
Someday I'll find them. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

This question was asked back in February of this year by Riff Raff. Within a few hours a '60 single cab, made on his birthdate, was located in Texas and was for sale. I don't know if he bought it though. The only reason I remember this was I was searching for a single cab at that time. Maybe you'll get lucky like he did. _________________ The 68 Ghia

Anyone have an 11/23/66? I've been looking for a while too... Having a b-date in the split era is one of those rare things in which being old is a good thing. |

I don't care to find a '58 bus.
You must have a real burning desire to do so. Good luck on your search! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Lind...do you think the production was always in order number wise?
I agree the numbers seem a good bit off, but if the M code tag has the date than it would be hard to argue. Is there any way to contact the owner of that to verify it? _________________ Cheers!

I don't feel that a german '73 model year bus would do any good for my collection, so just to make this difficult on myself, I need a december 27 1972 brazillian produced 15 window.... _________________ .

tease!
completely useless factoid - yours was built the day after thanksgiving...
ps. i'd also like a tape of the show the dead played that night, along w/ a handbill or poster. or at that very least, a setlist....lol.
EDIT: before you pull out your dusty copy of deadbase, note that i have a much better chance of finding my birthday bus than any of the dead-related stuff. to date, no setlists or copies of this purported show have ever surfaced, and it's been over 40 years now... "i need a miracle!" *raises finger*

Dan and I were born on December 27th too, but in 1987. I don't want a vanagon but if it were a daka double cab then maybe. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Hey!
Not birthday, but anniversary--but some doubt....
We've got a 65 Standard and when we got it we used David Eccles book to decipher the M plate and came up with July 7, 1964 as the build date. We thought that was way cool, as that is the same day as when we got married but it seemed a little early.
Anyway, S/N is 225000612. Could it possibly have an early July build date?

the plates were stamped out before the buses were built. it is more of a conception date than an actual birth date. _________________ .
