Wow. So I actually never played this one since it came out in 2006 I only busted Fastback Dons nuts a bit about him being a grandpa at 46 years old. I checked all 33 pages of posts.
So if you know who I am, and I know who you are - well its been 16 years since this one was started. I was 35 back then - and am 51 now. We definatly older.
Some of the guys that posted here have come and gone, some are just gone and there are some of the younger guys that went on to keep the flame going.
51 this year in June my brothers.
Lived in Poway, Laguna Niguel, Murrieta, San Antonio, Seattle then back to SoCal and now Escondido.
Met a lot of you along the way.
May you enjoy life and have good health my brothers - cuz lots of you are fucking old _________________

i'm male, 48+ 2 years old. Born in Northern Ireland, lived in England all my life. I have 2 notchbacks, both 1966, a customised 1967 and a 1968 Squareback, amongst a stable of other VW's listed in my signature.
I've been into VW's my whole life, ever since my grandparents both had them when I was a small child. I was fascinated by the notchback at about 6 or 7 years old, the fact the engine was hidden away in the boot (rear trunk) and have always wanted one. My first legal car was a double door 1976 baywindow bus i bought in 1990. Sadly its long gone. My second VW to own was in 2003, a right hand drive hardtop 1974 baywindow from south africa. Next up, a 1972 microbus baywindow from Oregon. Next a 1972 baywindow double cab from south africa, then a 1967 beetle. Then a 1971 karmann ghia convertible from Louisiana.
I got my first notch in 2018, it was part restored and needs recommissioning after being reassembled. Its a german car from Kiel. I bought the second one April last year 2021, its originally from Poland, the squareback i bought January this year, fresh in from Grand Junction, Colorado, and the custom Fastback i got in April of this year, fresh in from California.
enjoy!

Just got my first SB back in September. 1970 in Savannah Beige, all original. The car had been sitting in a backyard since about 1985, completely untouched.

I got my first VW, a 1969 squareback when I was 19 back in 1985. That got hit a year later and I got a 1971 SB from the money I got to fix the old one. Drove that one another 2 years and 50k miles. Traveled all around the western states and to Baja in it. I really loved the car. The only draw back it had was, that you could only sleep one person in the back of it.
In 1988 it was time for me to return to Europe and I decided my next car had to be a bus. And just before x-mas 1988 I bought my first bus which I still have and finished restoring two and a half years ago.
I had so much fun restoring the bus, that I started looking for a new project. This time its a notchback, which I always thought was cool when I lived in the US. _________________ - Michael

I am 24, in the Denver, CO area originally from Central California.
Unfortunately for me I was born into the Volkswagen scene. My first car was a 66 Bahama blue bug.
In terms of type 3's I didn't get into them until recently, about 3-4 years ago. It all started when I bought a random super rusty 65 sunroof notch on a whim. Its been downhill since then...
I currently have 5 Notchbacks... 3 complete cars, and 2 parts cars, and an abundance of parts that I have acquired because "you never know when you might need it".
No clubs for me, occasionally I'll pop out at a club meeting to see what's going on, but no true affiliation. _________________ 67 Zenith Blue Bug

50 and currently in central CA.
I’ve had 3 Beetles through high school and the military. Did all my own maintenance, belonged to a VW club in high school using the cover of my buddy’s Bug, have many fond memories in a VW. Now I’m a Jeep guy. Take the Jeep out almost every weekend and do Jeep stuff with Jeep people. Currently on my 5th Jeep.
Fast forward to what brought The Samba into my life…
My son is turning 16 next month, and of all the cars he had to choose from that mom was willing to buy him (‘73 Mustang Fastback, ‘68 Cougar, ‘63 Coronet), he chose a ‘71 Squareback. **DISCLAIMER There’s a bunch of fluff in the middle that I left out.
I feel honored for his reasons for the addition and to be the guy who gets to return this great little car back on the road where people can see it. It looks like the previous owner was almost done with a body and interior restoration. The engine runs and sounds great (currently FI). Little things here and there keep popping up, like cables being cut, kick panels that are super rusted, etc., but it’s part of why we chose an older car. Currently going through the front end brakes, suspension, ball joints, tie rods and repairing/replacing as needed. Next we’ll move on to the rear and do the same.
He can’t wait to drive it and I’m really loving the time that I’m getting to spend with him now. I never knew my son was a Motörhead and I think that’s rad! And my comment about having 3 previous Bugs in my life…. This isn’t a bug but it’s WAY cheaper than my Jeep! I’ll post pictures as soon as I figure out how. |
