|
|
Hi everyone,
My bus is a '59 which has been hacked for larger tires by some PO. I have seen quite a bit of info on here about how to repair this section but can't find much on this area for pre '63 busses. I have heard that the rear fender area is slightly different on early busses than busses after '63. What exactly is the difference? Is the lip different? I'm asking because I'm wondering if I can modify a repair section made for a later split to make the repair on my '59.
Thanks! _________________ 1956 pgsg bus

I believe they are different. (I think/if I remember) the later wheel wells are straight with no lip.
Hopefully someone will chime in. I do not think you can modify a later piece to the earlier profile.
Get them from KlassicFab, or Bustoration. _________________ Kevin Albrecht

you need a "flatlip" section. available for KF through bustoration (I just bought a set) or gabfab makes a set as well. it would not be worthwhile to make a later set fit. If you put a later set in you will be ridiculed constantly. and your bus will cry. _________________ Josh The Bus Guy formerly known as JOGR

Yup different.
1967 ('63 - '67)?
early (1961)
Late ones seem to be flared out a bit, and the early ones seem to be flat smooth.

Thanks for the info. So I'll skip the original plan of using the later repair panels. Now I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to fab a section from scratch. I'm pretty handy with working with metal. I don't need the entire panel (just a small section). _________________ 1956 pgsg bus

I just got some from GabFab for my 59' SC and they were really nice- especially for the price:

Sounds like you can just do it yourself though
Good luck with it- and thanks for fixing what the 70's did to our buses! |

Make sure that you butt weld in the piece (no flange). _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |
