What stevo isn't telling ya'll is that he is traveling with family and is having problems with the bus. He's in San Francisco, far from home, and needs to find a cut-off solenoid.
Please help! Where can the part be found?
Here's a VW dealership locator page (don't know if they can help)

Hopefully this link will work for you... a list of mechanics (and comments) in California. If it doesn't work, I'll glean some info for you:

you *should* be able to put a non electrical idle jet in if you can't find an electric one.
where in SF are you? _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

i'm 22nd/florida next to the jefferson market. about a block or two from atlas coffee, 5-6 blocks to sf general. i'm hoofing pots at 24th and noe tomorrow for one more day.
i went up to tassi in dc and he had one used for 10, non-neg, BUT, i was stupit not to pack an extra, AND i received my half back in krispy kreme doughnuts and hazelnut chocolates. holiday time, win-win.
after tomorrow i'll be in oakland housesitting. thursday nights at triple rock, monkeyhead ipa litres, but shit no more shuffleboard there. _________________ When you cross an Irishman, they never forget. I mean, never.

what kind of cross compatibilities do we have here. I have a few 30 pict 3s and maybe a pdst laying around. I don't think I had a 30 pict 2 so if if you can say what is compatible with this, I can see what I have. I'm about 15 miles away from the bay bridge. |

You can put a quick single wrap of electrical tape on the threads of your current solenoid, carefully thread it in, then back off about 1/2 turn from seated until the engine idles decently. This will get you through the immediate situation until you find a suitable replacement. The solenoid is similar to the dual carb buses pilot jet cut-offs, any with a 55 and yer good.

30 pict - 3 carbs would have the same electric pilot jet on them... OR just about any "stationary idle pilot jet" will work to keep him going.
Or I thought I remember there being a small screw on the end by the spade connector that you could screw in to "disarm" the electric coil if it went bad thus turning the dead solenoid into a stationary jet.

The stationary jets look like this.
