nice solution Eddie!...I see this application very relevent for cars where too much bondo is used in this area. It doesnt take much bondo to deam the plastic clips useless.
We have found the KGPR trim to be a nice shape, as original, but when used with the plastic clips, you can see a bulge where the clips are. It takes away from the sleek lines of the trim....we will try this on the next installation. _________________ House of Ghia specializing in Karmann Ghia parts, service, and restorations. www.house-of-ghia.com |

Thanks...you have to try it, I think you will really be happy with the finish after installation. I already spent buku bucks on the trim itself -- spending another $40 was worth it. |

This is a great idea.
However, I'm wondering about vibration backing the nut away. It would be a pain in the arse to get at those nuts after you cover them. Maybe using self-locking nuts would help. Some times lock washers aren't enough. Just a thought. _________________ 67 Ghia Cabriolet |

Just my opinion , But I would rather use good used and straighten them. With 6 left trim peices and 6 right peices. I find it hard to believe the repo trim peice match (NICELY) all the right angles. 1/4 to door and front fender to door gaps _________________ Shipping is NOT included in any of my products or parts. I would agree with you except I don't think I have original to start with, do I? From what I understand from this thread, and from the House of Ghia catalogue, OE for a late model should be rounded. Mine's sharp-edged (and really dinged up.)

Yeah I would be interested in the German CIP trim as well. Anybody got any pictures? Perhaps we could call CIP and request close up pics? |

I emailed CIP earlier today but have not heard back yet. Will post whatever I learn. Don't want to just order to check out as with shipping, restocking fee, return shipping, I could end up paying a lot for nothing. The ISP West trim looks very nice and correct(?) for late models, so I may just go with that despite the extra $. |

CIP sent some close-up pics today of the German molding. Looks good; more rounded in profile than the KGPR trim. Hard to tell much from photos but I think I will order and report what I think when I have in hand.

Nice thanks for that! Looks very similar to my Original pieces. I think I will give it a shot as well. |

Anything to report on these CIP Ghia mldgs.?
Fit, quality, match late model? Do they bend easily? |

Yes I received them but them but they are not on the car yet, as the car is going in for paint in a week or two. I will report details later but initial observations are they look good and not too flimsy but also not perfect, e.g., no precise angles like the originals should have (all ends are 90 degrees). |

Please do post up some pics when you get them on and what you think of them after installing them. |

Sorry reporting back took so long but I finally got the car back from paint and put back together (almost; have a few things left). I'm impressed with the trim. I was wrong in my earlier post, the CIP german trim does have angled ends around the door gap. I think its probably on par with the KGPR trim in size and heft, but the rounded profile is closer to OG. Install went easy too using CIP's clips (think they are the same that everybody sells) and its on quite secure. Overall I think it looks good and I'm pretty happy. Now lets see how long it lasts, as this car is a driver.

If those are the same clips I used on my car in your pic you can see where about everyone of them are, I wish they made a clip like the OG ones that don't put a dent in the trim. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.
