Should I leave the Deluxe alone, or change it back?
Leave it as is. You wanted a camper, so camp.

My '69 Deluxe was converted to a camper at some point in its abused life. By converted, I mean that someone threw out the seats, and put a westy bed and cabinet in its place. Then they screwed the curtain rods in, and put jalousie windows in the sides.

I bought it originally because I want a hard top camper, and didn't notice the small clues that said this was a converted transporter. Lately I've been thinking about yanking it all out and putting the rows of seating back in. The main reason is that its sorta a half assed camper, the bed doesn't fit just right, the cabinet faces an open window, not the paneled board the real campers have, and the idea of a transporter is growing on me.

Mostly I'm bored, and trolling the boards. Just thought I'd strike up a conversation. So what would you do?

Yeah, a couple, but I can take some others. Of what, the interior?

i purchased a '71 this past summer with the same story: someone in the past pulled out the rear seats, cut out the heater tube under the back seat, and stuck in mid 70s westy rear seat and jalousies. i was suspicious of the vinyl headliner and panels, and upon further reading on westys, figured it all out. i wanted it as a camper, and as date correct as possible, so i found a '71 westy in the jy and took the interior from it for my bus. now i'm thinking of using the mid 70s stuff as some kind of custom setup in one of my splits. or, i have 2 vanagon westy z beds too, maybe make the whole bus fold down! that would be interesting...

here's my '71 as purchased:

I'd install 6X9 speakers for more bass response and include a subwoofer under the Z-bed for vibrational purposes while doing the horizontal bop.

If the kit stays, I'll have the cushions recovered in a grey fabric to match the door panels and get rid of the hideous curtians. That yaller bugs me.

On second thought, I'm going outside right now, and throw those curtains away.

i like z bed interiors in a hardtop (with the jump seat preferably), but i never liked the cabinets... dont want to hit my head when i sit up in bed, and i really need to look out the RR window when driving, dammit.

Keep the camper interior. Spruce it up like you want, and camp away.

Unless you have more of need for a transporter.

Ah, yes, things that go bump in the night! In a westy.

Hmm.. Maybe I'll keep it as a camper, but trade my set up for the full size bed set up. That way there is no big cabinet blocking off one window.

you're not allowed to talk about redox equations until Jan 8 for Spring 2007 semester! Oxidation involves a loss of electrons, yo! also handy in cleansing procedures as well.
