I think it is an awesome bus. I have seen it personally and it is deff a piece of VW history. I will admit that it is a little crude and weird looking but if you want rare... you can get much more than this one!

I think for the price I'd rather have a Columbian barndoor or 2.

Can this bus even be verified as original. I did an internet search last night and could not find a thing about them. I mean, how can you verify that is an actual VW? I spent a few years traveling around Europe, and never saw one of these. I have to admit though, that I came across a bunch of vehicles that I would not have been able to name..... Laughing

Ok so its not the most beautiful vehicle in the world but it is a VW

So all of you who love Hebmullers, Drews, and BINZ who do you think built them? NOT VW so as far as this bus goes its based on a 43 Kubel doesnt that say enough? Its been coachbuilt by people with limited resources. So Bob Shail of Volksworld did an article in 2005 see my link

I hope the seller gets what hes asking because from what i see this is another rare piece of VW history and In my opinion worth much more than the asking price.

Good luck Sickfrid

I have seen these before and I beleive you are correct BUT
heb's romies and the other coachbuilts WERE MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE TO THE EYE!!!!!!!!! shoot even the kubels and schwims look better than that IMO.

OH its ugly as hell. i admit that and personally i wouldnt have invested in it. You must admit that over the years there have been some Damned ugly VWs in the past and many of them Kit cars. Someone must have liked them to buy them originally. And most of these have fallen by the wayside over the years and remember this bus is at least 50 years old. How many people can say that their vehicle survived that long? not that many.

Its still a piece of History and history is often ugly .

Percentage wise the lucky ones with such old metal are far outweighed by those with newer cars. And I have 2 58 Verts which are almost to 50 years old but even then they are plentiful compared to such older vehicles.

this is almost a one off, thats a rare piece of history.

Well we all have our favourites, some like splits some like busses and others Type 3s

Some like old and some like new (YUK Watercooled) but we all have our preferences, so its not right to shout down people who do like such ugly vehicles.

Its just another VW(Or VW Based) vehicle thats up for sale. And weve all seen them listed.

Good luck to this particular seller hope it sells to a real enthusiast.

I have seen more than one like this though, so while it is not a "real" VW it is not a total one off. I saw photos of two or three of them at a show in Germany recently...apparantly they built a bunch of them. They are crude to be sure, but thats what makes em cool. If I wasnt in a "clearing house" mode I might be tempted to go for it myself.

I think the price is realistic...find another one...and think of the crowd it would have around it at the next OCTO !

And before someone else says it... slam it and put it on earlies! Laughing

And the Kubel chassis is a plus.

I didnt Photoshop this but I think it could deff look bad ass. Like Randy said, you would not get lost out in the parking lot with this one.

This should satisfy the curious. I took these at the Hessische Oldendorf Show in 2005.

It got a lot of attention from mostly the curious...not many drooling over it. This one was listed as a '56.
