Our rental car here in San Diego has Sirius radio in it...so we had it tuned to the all Elvis station all day...willing El Trokito to come to Vegas.
We have seen more buses here in San Diego over 2 days, than I have seen over several years. Crazy. |

did you see my 65 camper /panel? |
Not too sure Bill.... quite possibly! We did see a very nice double cab camping out, saw a really cool bay Herbie double cab in La Jolla... a 21 window in Oceanside, etc, etc etc.... it seemed to go on and on!
But, not to hijack the El Trokito thread.....
I want to thank Jerome for giving me a shot at El, and having patience. It just didn't work out for me in the end. However, I have gained inspiration to get my own double cab project moving full steam ahead.
I hope you get your truck back someday again, J....... |

Digging up an old (awesome) build. Over three years on, I am interested to know how the clear coat over patina has held up (yep I see it was sold, but it must still be in the community somewhere), or if anyone has any other experiences with clear coat over patina (eg the Jer*Fab black beetle.)
Cheers

I "skimmed" through most of this thread old thread mentioned today in the Split Bus thread below. I recall reading most of the 51 pages in 07 or 08 and I'd like to know if the final results were completely elbow grease with your CLR formula with 800 grit pads and then clear coat or is there a blend here and there? I love how someone said "polished patina" and would love a thread on that as the hard work has amazing results.

so I started on the nose. I wanted to only do half so I could compare. I use CLR rust remover, 1 to 4 with warm water for best results with a green scotch brite and 800 grit where its rough.

I assume you had to somewhat scuff the paint to clear it right? |
I scotch brited the whole thing first. |

Yes how has it held up all these years later, does the new owner comment here?

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |
