nice. the one that I went to somewhere in or near san jose in the mid 90s was adamant about no power tools. I thought it was kind of stupid on their part. I like the way they run their yards otherwise. simple easy pricing, no time wasting while the counter help tries to decide how much to gouge you for the parts.

the cordless sawzall is the ultimate tool for freestyle parts removal. I often wonder how I ever made do before I got one. I got the bosch unit with an optional car charger so I can recharge in the field without a generator.

Sorry guys, but as soon as I heard about this bus, I drove 187 miles to it and I took the popouts and passenger side windshield.... looks like it was originally a standard, but at some point they installed a camper interior.

No shame in that. I would've done the same if I could.

How are the frames? OG paint? what color? Sigla or Sekurit glass?

Just wanna know what I'm missing out on...

The frames are in great shape. no rust. Inside of frames are og. white paint. Outside has been painted white with a brush. Only 1 latch left. 5 pieces of glass are good, 1 was broken. 3 are sekurit, 2 are sigla. broken one was a sekurit. I would have loved to take the bulkhead too, but I didn't bring any tools to do it. They probably would have charged me an arm and a leg for it anyways. Grand total for 6 popouts, 1 windshield, and two og. bus wipers ..... $103.50 after haggling.

The latch you got was behind the bay window camper section. I did not feel like screwing with it.

Hmmm, I wonder where the other 5 are [1 was broken]..... Laughing

Saturday morning, the rear hatch was on the bus, Sunday morning, it was gone. I don't know who grabbed it.

Sunday, I looked twice at the serpentine belt set-up but left it. The idler pully looked cheaply made. The alt pully said FANGUARD on it... not sure if that is the brand?

I did buy the speedometer Sunday. It was a clear needle 70 mph speedo with a date of 9.59 on it. It had been paint marked on the back from somewhere else.

I'll give you $75 for them. pay as little as you can. you should be able to sell the spring plates and caps also. I don't need those, just the bars.

People have the habit of walking past the front of the vehicles and breaking headlights as they go by. That is why you found the headlight assemblies stashed in the back of the vam to the right of the bus Smile

I put them there to save the glass lens from getting broken. One was marked just Hella but the other was marked VW and Hella. I did not buy them because they are bug headlight assemblies.

In my experience here in Cali, the wrecking yards have a nasty habit of totally scrapping a vehicle once it gets "in" the yard. They do have a "salvage yard" and try to sell complete & running ones but once "in" they're done! Confused

I even approched one once and asked what was the difference between buying it outright or hacking it and buying it piece by piece. Was told that eventually the "last" piece would have to be scrapped! Sad

Real shame on this one since it does look like a fairly solid bus! Crying or Very sad

California has an abatement law. If a vehicle is parked too long on the street, it gets marked. If it sits for more than 72 hours without being moved, it can and might be towed to a tow storage lot after 10 days. Then the owner has a set period of time to claim it. If the owner does not, then the vehicle is auctioned off to a wrecking yard. Per Calif law, the vehicle cannot be licensed or registered again, only parts can be sold off it.
That was an abatement vehicle.... I asked. Only non-abatement cars can be sold complete and registered.

This explains the law: http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/vehabate.html
Read Annex 2A section 22662 paragraph f.

Now vehicles turned in for the Clean Air Act because it cannot pass the smog check are a whole different story. That vehicle goes directly to the crusher. NO parts whatsever can be sold off it.
