Thanks for the pic Toby! Who's header did you start with? Or, is that all custom?

Phillip, really, Brian is my engine guru, you need to ask HIM those techie questions! Laughing

Yes, it was originally an S&S and looked just like yours. One day, when I find a freakin' job and can have some play $$ left over, I'd like to replace that L-bend with a mandrel piece but, for now, it flows well enough.

Note: Mine had slip joints on the lower exhaust but I really, REALLY!, don't like them as it's an air leak source...even when you goop on the orange silicone sealer Rolling Eyes So I got some flanges and welded them onto my header so it all bolts together and -- ta da! -- no air leaks Wink I measured about 1/2-a-million times before I cut the excess off for the flanging as I didn't want to make the #1 & #3 pipes too short!

** NEW pics added in the first post**

Some more work done this weekend. Spent time both Saturday and Sunday at my friend David's shop.

FINALLY got my fan on the *&^%$ crank. If ya'll remember, this crank was machined over on all the journals. And apparently the pulley (or fan on a Type 3) surface was as well. Had a hell of a time getting bearings to fit. So I used a flapper wheel to hone the fan out a little. After a long, long time I finally got it to fit on, not after realizing the outside was actually hitting the back half of the fan shroud! I fixed this with the flapper wheel as well.

After the fan was on, I was able to get the second half of the shroud on, then the pulley shroud. I had to clearance the hole for the alternator, since it had a flange-like area that interfered with the small alternator. The alternator I'm using is from the DDB in Portland.

As you can see, there isn't any room between the alternator and the distributor. This is my next issue to resolve. I'm still not quite sure how to do this. Hope to get some time in this weekend to sort it out.

**New pics added in the first post!**

Got a little more work done this weekend. Didn't get as much work done as I would have liked. I've been distracted by a big masonry project on the side of my house.

Anyway, started working on the fuel line. I'm using 3/8" tubing for my fuel with -6AN fittings. Started to put together my CB breather box. Also mounted the coil, and ran some coil wires from the MSD box. I had forgot about these! I keep working on my wiring. Every time I think I'm close, I find something else.

I also put the sump plate on, but I forgot to take a pic!

I've been silently following this build closely. I have been building my 2275 for the last 3 months for my type 34 ghia. Have you fired that thing yet? I am on track to get mine fired off tonight. Just need to fab up my muffler and hook up my compu-fire ignition. Everything else is ready to rock. I put oil in it last night and my stupid ass forgot to put the oil filler on the bottom of the case Embarassed , everthing else has gone so smoothly that I had to make a mistake somewhere. After cleaning up I went and got some MORE oil, put the damn filler neck on and refilled it. Look forward to seeing what you do for a traction bar. I'm still kind of scratching my head since the header is in the way of where it would normally support the engine. Confused

I'm still working on the fuel system. I've had a slight delay with life. The weather is really nice here right now, and I'm focusing on my yard for a bit before it's too hot.

Letting her cool off now for an oil change and valve adjustment then I'm off to do my first smokey burnout!! Hope to hear the fuel system gets up and running soon and the wife is happy with the yard. Mine's easy out here in the desert just mow the little lawn and yer done.

I have some bitchen news. But first a run down of all the work that I've done on the 2332.

A little while ago, I finished all my hard lines for fuel. And pulled the old nipples off the fuel regulator and tapped the inlet and outlet 1/8" for some -06AN fittings. This completed the fuel lines including a new filter and hose. I also ran some really cool quick release fittings and 1/8" hose from the intake manifolds to the fuel regulator.

I ran a T fitting with 1/8" NPT female on two ends in the stock Type 1 sending switch location and am using a sending switch on the top for the idiot light and ran the sending unit for my Auto Meter oil pressure gauge upside down on the other side. Came out pretty slick.

While trying to figure out where the number one wire should be on the distributor, we discovered that the distributor was 180 degrees off. Temporarily, we rotated the distributor. At some point I'll need to pull the distributor drive and turn it 180 to fix this. The wires are a little funky looking.

So late last night I added some Scat stainless 5-tab valve covers and put the motor on the engine stand. Filled the motor up with some Rotella T motor oil and started hooking up all of the power wires to the battery and switch on the stand. Also hooked up all the negative wires from the injection loom and MSD 6A box to the battery. At this point everything was ready to do a 1st time test run on the motor.

The fuel tank was empty, so we ran to the gas station to get gas and some drinks. Once back, we filled the tank and it was time to give the first test. After a few starts, and twisting the distributor a little, it finally started up!! We got it quickly up to 2000 rpms and ran it for about 20 minutes to break in the cam. During this initial run time, we had some weird issues with cylinders 3/4 - 3 was almost cold. Turns out, and I think the reason that the guy sold this injection set up, the throttle shaft on the 3/4 side was twisted! Number 4 cylinder had a butterfly opening up way earlier than 3. Once we discovered this, and fixed it temporarily (will order a new shaft from CB), and adjusted the idle screws and linkage, it ran smoooooooooooth. And some damn fine throttle response too.

So that's the current status. Well over 2 years in the making, my 2332 lives and breathes!! I have some little things to do, but I'm hoping to get the motor in my Notch sometime this week.

I've been up all night. It's almost 7:30 in the AM. Need a shower, and some sleep.

I hope to post lots of pics and a video soon.

I can see pulling an all nighter when you get this close! These VDubs look a lot more complicated than bolting a Chevy together! Confused

Just a quick update. Still need to get some pics from my friend Derek to post.

I have one of my fuel rails getting welded. Once that's done I can reinstall it. I also need to double check my oil pressure and see if oil is flowing properly to the filter.

Once this is done, I can plug her into the Notch!

Building that 2332 cc engine is just like a walk in the park on your part.

Very very great job!

Some updates:

Got my fuel rail back. Welded up nicely! Fuel system back together. Started the motor up with a good gauge—getting about 50psi at 2000rpm and about 20psi at idle. I still have the Shell Rotella T 15-40 oil in the motor from break in.

I have two oil leaks to fix. One from the top of the breather base where the CB breather box is mounted. Should be an easy fix. The other leak, not so easy. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the oil cooler; more specifically the oil cooler seals. I need to get these fixed before placing the motor in my Notch. I do not want any leaks what so ever.
