So I'd always said I'd never own another late VW. My first car was a '69 Bug, and that was my only fat chick.

Well...sometimes deals fall into your lap that you just can't pass up. Such is the case with my latest VW - a 1974 (yikes!) Ghia coupe. I've owned a few Ghias before, but never a BUT Ghia. This particular specimen has some of the usual Ghia rust, a bashed in nose, and a broken driver's window. But to it's credit, it runs, drives, shifts and stops! And the rockers aren't even all that bad. I paid a whopping $200 for it.

I have no idea what I'll do with it. I may part it, I may fix it and sell it, I may sit on it for a while. But for the price, I just couldn't pass it up. Never say never!

"Hi, I'm Tom and I own a fat chick."

Have you tried KGP&R or House of Ghia? You don't want a used windshield.

No I haven't. I had one place that does only windshields quote me $200 installed. When I called back to make the apt. they said they wont do it and the guy that quoted me was mistaken. Mad Whats wrong with used ones? Do they warp or become to brittle to re-install?

I'll check the two places you've suggested but I'm trying to go low on the dogh.

Used windshield tend to be pitted and delaminate, which is indicative of the light fogging around the edges.

I understand. I don't mind some light fogging or pitting depending on the sevarity of it. Just need a windshield. I don't even have a cracked one in the car. I have nothing Very Happy

LOL! Behold the way the light shimmers off her NHTSA-spec bumpers, the glimmer of her 14-inch-tall taillights, and the way she looks at you through those Type IV gauges! Wink

Seriously though, 1974 is a rare year for ghias. Plus, it's a true 2-seater unlike the earlier ghias, so that makes it a true sports car.

Here's one reason this car was so cheap:

And yes, I see the irony in the license plate.

But despite the awful nose, I really don't think the car is bad enough to cut up. Then again, I may change my mind in a week. Very Happy

With some back breaking work, (anybody who has done it will know what I mean) that nose could look brand new.

But I would fix what you can easily and flip it.

There's nothing wrong with late Ghias. It's the evolution of a species. The 74 Ghia was the last of the last... and it deserves its rightful place. Plus they're very driveable and still fun, and just a bit more safe than the earlier models. Fix it up and drive it. You'll be glad you did! BTW that is one TUF Ghia, dude!
