Anyone else have this M code on their birth cetificate for a Polar Silver or other color? Just curious. I assume it's very common. '57. |

The M codes changed over the years.
In a 8/1955 catalog I have the M104 listed and "Red leatherette for sedans with Nile Beige and Black finish".
In a 8/1060 M option catalog it is listed as"With red leatherette for black finish only".
Interesting to note in the color options for Polar Silver in 56/57, you could have Red or Light Beige imitation leather upholstery as a special option.

I see red as an option in the Polar Silver and Prairie Beige sedans for that year and for the Black and Shetland Gray Cabriolets (Tomato Red and Red, respectively).
Hope that helps. |

Red leatherette came as an option for cars as early as 1952 for the start of the zwitter model for the black and chestnut brown models. _________________ 1953 Zwitter 11C (L73) |

Also....If you had the red leatherette seats, you are meant to have Ko25 Light Brown beading on the seats. |

Red Leatherette was also used on L227 Strato Silver cars. |
Glenn,
Isn't there conceivably up to three different Red Leatherette colors available in '55 (Red Beige (K155),Tomato Red (K159) or Red (K168))?
This is the color WW offers, do you think its closest to Red (K168)?

I just rec'd my Oct '54 Beetle's BC. Unfortunately the color 'is not mentioned'.
It has the following clue in the Option list:
"M104 cannot be identified"
But looking @ the Technical section it says M104 = Upholstery Leatherette - Red
So that narrows it down to a Strato Silver car... right? _________________ Cheers,

The BC for my Polar silver/ red interior oval states no M code for the interior, but says:
"upholstery material light grey or leatherette light beige or red"... that really narrows it down.
It also states I have M 107 heated rear window so there is obviously some issues with the accuracy of these birth certificates as that should read M107 bumpers with overriders. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

I agree they leave a little to be desired... but I like that the service is offered on our lil bugs.
M107 - Ram Protection/Bumpers w/ Overriders = Big 'American' Bumpers or Euro Blades w/ Bumper Guards? _________________ Cheers,

I don't know, it looks like agave on the outside and maybe iceland green on the inside. Agave and Iceland green often get confused but those are 55 seats, he's got a batwing steering wheel and with a 56-59 armrest. The mystery continues... |
