|
|
Don't know much about them, bought an NOS one a while back, considering putting it on my '50.
It has the 3 position key, and the white pushbutton. Bakelite cover on the back, screw terms. Is there an older one? Seems I saw one with a toggle switch that someone was calling a split steering lock??
I think this is the one I have (from the gallery search):
Also, what mods do I need to make for this? I presume I have to make a hole in the steering column, mods to the steering shaft too?
The '50 is getting split popouts, a new interior and a telefunken radio this winter... why not a steering lock while I am at it??? _________________ John Henry

Hmmm. Doesn't look trivial, I need the steering lock sleeve (or need to make one), and it looks like that kind is for an oval anyway (per the dash used in the tech bulletin)??
Maybe not good for my '50?
So this is the split one?
Anyone have one for sale???
Anyone install one of these with the steering lock sleeve and all???? _________________ John Henry

John I have the one with the toggle switch in my 50 HEB and it also has an L part number. When I installed it my steering shaft already had the tabs on it and so did my 51 only needed to cut small oval hole in the column to match the lock housing. There is a pic of mine in the gallery but I dont know how to move it.

I almost bought a 51 standard years ago that had one of those with the toggle switch so I would vote for that version being correct.
Like Dave said, you might already have the sleeve on your column. My 51 has the sleeve but has never had a lock. The sleeve is brazed on.

The steering shaft has a piece welded on it that has 4 'slots'. You need to get one of these shafts.
I'll look and see if I have another. _________________ CH³NO²

So does anyone know when that white pushbutton style was introduced? How far past the splits was it? Would it be embarrassing to put it on my split?
I wouldn't mind finding a split one for sure, but I bet they are pretty scarce. The later one I have is NOS, very nice.
When I yank the interior later this summer, I'll look and see if I have the lock collar on my column.
Thanks for the info............! _________________ John Henry

<bump>
Does anyone know when that white pushbutton style was introduced?
I still can't decide if it is too "late" to put on my '50. Some of you accessory brochure librarians have any idea when this white pushbutton style came out???? _________________ John Henry

Introduced late in 1954 and was applicable for cars from chassis #575415. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

I would like to retract my last statement and replace it with this one.......
I found this in a 4/1952 catalog.

Ok, well maybe I *will* put it in my split. So it was used in late splits I'd guess. _________________ John Henry
