Anybody know the best way to fill in the pitting you get around the rain gutters of a bus? Just sand the rust out and fill with spot putty? The pitting isnt too bad, not like it needs metal replacement. Also, what brand of putty would work best? |

I've heard of using a two part epoxy self leveling seam sealer from SEM. But never done it myself. I am gonna try it real soon though as I am doing a complete resto on a 76 Westy. Good luck |

Spot sand blast it is good. The old fashioned way is to go to bare metal. If you sand flat or grind you lose too much metal. 3M makes some great composite stripping wheels for drills. Some people treat the base rust (that has no layers of rust)with Rust-Mort or stuff like that then bondo-or primer then use finish body filler putty. Some people say that Rust-mort etc. doesn't last and you need to go to bare metal. Or else go to base rust then use por 15 then por 15 primer and fillers then regular body work materials. Or go to the base layer of rust and por 15 it then por 15 primer and/or por 15 fill it. If you use por 15 get all the prep stuff from them so you are prepped right to take paint. You can always find someone who is decent at it to weld a couple little holes and grind and finish it yourself if you go through. Some people like bead blasting but not on an assembled car. Use a person good at sand blasting or be careful so you don't warp the surface too much. If you use body fillers use a good brand. |
