Hey all, I just took the van on about a 1600 mile road trip. The van ran great except for two incidents. After driving for about 400 miles straight I stopped to gas up, turned the van off to gas, then when getting back in it wouldn't turn over at all. Battery was fine, and it was almost making some kind of buzzing sound in the engine bay but no cranking. I fiddled around with things for a bit with no luck, then all of a sudden it crunk up no problems. Drove it for another 800 miles with no problems on shut off and cranking back up. Then all of a sudden it did it again. This time it sat for about 2 hours, I tried cranking probably 40 times then all of a sudden it crunk up and had no problems the rest of the trip. Any ideas on how to start tracking down the problem? Thanks!

So I think this is the "hot start" problem that some people install a relay to bandage up. Is it ok to just drive the fan and let it cool when it won't hot start or should this be fixed to ensure the starter will last?

I love the use of "crunk" as the past tense for "crank". I'm going to steal that.

Anyway, it sounds like it could be an issue with your starter solenoid sticking when it's hot. If it happens again, try having someone crank the engine while you smack the starter with a hammer, stick, large shoe, or whatever you can find lying around.

It's under the van - on the passenger side and toward the top of the transaxle. I'm not certain but you might be able to reach it from the engine bay, way up in front and on the right side of the motor/bellhousing.
