Seriously? 4-1/2 years??? Yeah, that's a long time to wait for the "right" buyer to come along. _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

There might be a new wave of fake VW clocks hitting the market......
I saw this one on Facebook for sale. It looks like an Opel clock with a new face on it......
Caveat emptor.....

so you put up an ad saying I have motors. He says
"If you are interested then contact me and we will go through them and I will take pictures and such. "
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1956010
I contact him to ask about a certain serial number range. He replies,
"Sorry my friend I do not have time to go digging through Motors to look at numbers"?
I get it, too busy, then pull your ad! |

Had a similar response on a set of heads from this guy. I asked the cc and got “not real sure as we haven’t CC’d them yet but should be industry standard”. When I replied that I needed a certain CC to get my compression where I needed it, got a “ok” response. No offer to CC them, not even for a charge. Nothing. This guy needs to find someone else to do his customer service for sure. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

he edited his ad now. the mileage went up to 47k and he admitted it had been painted. still sounds fishy. why would someone paint such a low mileage car that sat inside most of its life ? |

I like how he says virtually no rust. then posts pictures and in almost every pictures everything has rust. hahaha. Not rotted through, but everything is covered in rust and needs to be cleaned up for sure. Is that rot/crack in the pan weldable? Looks like the integrity of the metal has been compromised. but yeah I agree - at least its a realistic price for what looks like a decent project to work on. I like how a lot of the car hasn't been modified and looks to be mostly stock. _________________ my first bug 66' build:

I was thinking the same thing - but regarding that issue - it not only comes down to mileage - but also how the car was taken care of - its not the minimal use but I think the AGE of the car and the parts. Things start to get brittle, dried up, cracked......just from sitting for so long. Its up to someone to go through and start refurbishing all of the wearable parts on the car at some point. _________________ my first bug 66' build:

I've seen steerings wheels cracked significantly with few miles and others that remain nearly crack free with 100k miles. I don't know the why's, but surely it is related to the storage conditions. When I want to evaluate mileage using the steering wheel I look more at wear on the nubs along the back or evidence of thumb wear at the spokes (or evidence of refinishing or replacement.) I then compare this to the message other parts give me (door hinges, pedal pads, paint, and...) _________________

This looks like it could actually be a decent car with some work, but seeing the laziness in the trunk and engine compartment, I doubt anyone will even consider it because where there's some laziness, there's more laziness. They definitely won't consider it at that price either....
