Interior curtains throughout.
Maybe this was the first VW factory built camper and not the T5? _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

Amazing pictures, feel like your there!
I'm not a close follower of these things, any reason some of the flags got changed on the side? Did the route change or something?
Also the paint on the front looks changed too, were there two buses? Actually may be its just the light _________________ Austrian Kohlruss Deluxe

While pictured on the road the dlx features the common (and official) KB license plate (KB - Kommandantura Berlin).
But on Autosalon Display it has a look-alike PRE-WAR Registration as 1A stood for Berlin before 1945.
Supposingly, 6 years after the end of WWII the Connection between 1A Registration and Berlin was still in people´s heads.
Any suggestions for the 1A-100000? |

@bergepanzer: you're right, after ww2, there weren't any plates starting with 1A and I guess it is very unlikely that the numbers were chosen that they look without random (don't know how to express that in English).
If you check that out:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_deutschen_Kfz-Kennzeichen_(historisch)
Other idea: the guys from Volkswagen wanted to show their secret membership in the illuminati and used 1a as the German mysterious symbol for excellent or best. So they problably meant excellent quality or great design? |

I spent a little time of searching for this location. In the left side of the picture, behind the "Weltexpress"-Bus you can see a monument made out of stone.
It marks the border from Austria to Italy. This would also explain the uniformed men controlling the vehicle.
I would say this pic has been taken at the border crossing of "Gries am Brenner" better known as "Brennerpass".
In the background you can see a house. It is still existing today. In older times it has been used as a duty house. Nowadays there is a shop for traditional clothes in it.

The Deluxe was featured in Gute Fahrt 10, October 1951
As has been said, no nose trim (but the holes are there).
At the show, the bus is wearing a white badge. The badge has been removed by the time of the travel pictures, with caps used to fill the three mounting holes.

The Berlin VW Word Express, which, as you can see here, used the Berlin Motor Show as a springboard, recently started its journey around the world. The route was written on the front banner of the VW bus. The interior contains everything a world traveller might need. For the time being, two cameras peek out of the roof, eager to get snapping very soon.

Maybe someone can translate better than this...
I wonder if Gute Fahrt had a follow up feature following its travels?
Can you imagine finding this 51, and uncovering those logos?
A big thank you to Yoshi for help with the pictures!

Can we get these two pictures reinstalled? They were in fantastic detail. |
They are there if you click on the links to open them.
They won't appear in-line in Google Chrome since they are hosted elsewhere and not on a secure web site. (Security thing in Chrome) _________________ How to Post Photos
