Is it "van a gone"?
Or do you accent the second syllable; i.e., to rhyme with "tan wagon"?
Or is it more like "van again"?

Someone please help me with this very very important question.

OK, thanks. But... how do you KNOW that's correct?
(Sorry if I'm being annoying; I'm sitting around waiting for a meeting to start and I'm getting a bit stir crazy).

Pronounce it the way you like, it's not a real word.
It was a bastardization of van and station wagon, a marketing ploy for the silly Americans.
Van + wagon = Vanagon
Station Wag-on
Station Wagin

So, the French pronuciation should be,

Va-nya-john. Unh huh huh huh!

I'll say this, though. 'Vanagon' is distinctive, and turns well into 'Vanagony' which we all experience, and 'Vanagonizer,' which is something the evil Mr. Spock in the 'Mirror Mirror' universe uses to run over you... We also have 'Vanagain,' and our own celebrity, Vanagon White on 'Wheel of Torsion.'

Shocked

I am quite glad VW did NOT invent the term, 'Mini-Van.'

I am still yelling 'POSER!' at Odysseys when I pass them.

Best!

MS, who you trying to fool? You drive a Vanagon, not matter how you pronounce it, you're not passing anybody, much less an Odyssey!! Dancing

Hey! Winston and I have passed Yugos, Golf Carts, and Parked Vehicles... Actually, with the new rims, he rolls pretty well.

My problem is that I can just see the E.R. Techs absolutely refusing to try and help anybody clobbered in a 'Transporter Accident.'

BEAM ME UP. Scotty!

I always pronounced it "VAN-uh-gin", but a while back in New York some Spanish speaking guys were admiring it and one made a comment about the "va-na-GOHN"

Sorry. I can believe the Yugos and parked vehicles, but I don't think there is a stock Vanagon that can beat a golf cart in decent condition.

I have a VW Video that has a Vanagon movie clip and the VW employee pronounced it va-na-gohn. I prefer van-uh-gin myself.
