The Manual was printed in 1959, so contains most Volkswagen colors to 1959.

Aero Silver was a 1958 to 1959 Karmann Ghia color.

Most of the mixture was aluminium paint, yellow / green , white with a dash of black.

93.6 Parts 90 Aluminium

4.2 Parts 12 Yellow Green

2.0 Parts 80 White

0.2 Parts 40 Black

Please note that the (M) is missing after the name Areosilber , however 93.6% of the paint is Aluminium, which is present in all metallic paints.

Here's a link to all the codes from that book:

http://www.karmannghia.org/paint_chips.html

The notes at the beginning of this link do say that it has been updated some time in the 60's and 70's - you can see the paint codes for little known colors such as Polar Blue.

No this is an original Volkswagen Lacke book, I have posted a picture of the book cover. The book was printed in 1959. The paint codes refer to the original mixing colors (some of which I have posted).

Glasurit is modern paint, a link has been posted by Patrick Baptist.

Is Cardinal Red, code L354, an orange-brown color or more red?

In pictures it looks orange-brown and red in some angles.

John, Those 2 Ghia's do look the same color. However in these pictures below the Cardinal Red looks a bit more orange-brown.

How does Cardinal Red look in person?

Without having LIsa's Cab and the Ex-"Broadacus" Coupe together it's a bit of a lottery. Personally I think Lisa's looks the most attractive and knowing her attention to detail I would be surprised if she hadn't put a lot of research into getting it right. That's not to say "Broadacus" didn't put a lot of time into his repaint but I do remember him not being entirely happy with the outcome.

Does Lisa's car's Cardinal Red look like it does in the pictures I posted above of her car?

Does it look reddish-orange-brown?

Hey Gang,

The exterior paint on this car was not an accurate color match to Cardinal Red.

The dash, door jambs, engine bay, etc. were very nice original cardinal red applied at the factory and noticeably a different shade.

I have been informed that since this picture was taken, it's now back to the correct color and awaiting assembly (down in the Los Angeles area). Can't wait to see it when done. Rumor is it will be Okrasa powered.

This car looks like it should have more of an orange/brown look to be Cardinal Red. I thought it was just the lighting making it look different.
