1947 or so? Ummm, I don’t think so. Telescoping shock tower, hydraulic brakes, heater knob placement, etc... more like 1956-64 Rolling Eyes

I emailed him about it and asked for a photo of the chassis # too

Rolling Eyes Laughing

I was shocked when I saw the price tag as well. I remember selling my set here years ago and decided to look up my old ad. Here it is from 2008 :

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=695523

I was asking $6000 as well !! Holy crap! I forgot all about that. To be honest, I'm pretty sure I sold them shortly after I posted the ad for $3500... and I thought that was a lot of money as well.

You'll notice that mine had different latches compared to the one's in the classifieds right now. I didn't know there were different versions.

What I found out is that split window latches are similar to early bus pop out spoon latches. I seen other types like the one on the ad above but those are for other type of cars. They will fit the bug but are actually made for different car.

Here is mine below.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

New ad from this seller:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2352542

Do you think his ad is misleading?

I don’t know but those hinges are not for VWs.

Listed as "Split Window Zwitter Body Only PRICE REDUCED! Price: $7500"

At least he admits that it's a oval body with a split window welded in. An oval with a split window welded in doesn't make it a zwitter.

Wouldn't a Zwitter have " early Oval " doors, not single glass Split doors ?

To play the devil's advocate, Zwitter is a pretty good description of this modified body. It has an oval-style dashboard and a split rear window. That's a Zwitter. Is it a genuine Zwitter? No. But a fabricated or replica Zwitter? Sure. I know many details are wrong, like the ashtray, etc., etc. Still, Zwitter describes it.

Anyone see what this one was priced at?

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2365772

It's a DECEMBER 1949 not November
Many wrong 1949 details including taillights, semaphores and some other small details (Interior).

I hope whomever is buying it will make it right back into a beautiful car.

It is a beautiful car, and it doesn't need to be made "right." If someone wants to make every detail factory original, that's fine. If someone wants to make it shiny again, that's also fine. But a survivor like this does not need anything to be appealing in its own right. If the taillights were newly installed in error, yes it would be better to get "correct" ones. But if the taillights have been there for 50 years, I'd just leave them alone.

that car is not a 'survivor' by any means. It has survived in the sense that it still exists, but beyond that it needs a lot of help to be a presentable '49.

not a terrible price, but its far from a beautiful car that "doesn't need to be made right'".

A question is presentable to whom? Volkswagens were artifacts of everyday life, not concours vehicles. Sure, they were all shiny new once--and there's nothing wrong with restoring one that way. But perfect new Volkswagens were only part of the Volkswagen story, and perhaps a minor one. Volkswagens were driven, loved, maintained, fixed, improvised, and adapted more than any other vehicle, and there's nothing wrong with cherishing or preserving one that way either. When all the vintage VW's are restored to factory specifications, using new reproduction parts or originals salvaged by destroying other surviving cars, I will miss that any of them show what driving a Volkswagen was really like. If that were my car I would paint it, if I got around to it, and maybe the same weird blue. I would put something on the floors. And if I took it to a local car show or drove it around town, I guarantee it would be appreciated--even alongside a million dollar Ferrari.

I don't know that anyone on here is saying they would strip it down to bare metal and restore it. One could take that and strip the paint down to the original green as best as possible and blend in where its necessary. Then look for age appropriate parts. And maybe have the interior redone in the correct way. Well at least thats what i would do while i enjoyed driving the #*@ out of it! Laughing

Am I missing some context about this listing for a 25hp cyl head?
Is it a joke on another thread?

Not worth to carry it towards home a single foot after digging it out.

It's a curiosity. Maybe it has a story, or maybe a buyer could imagine one. I don't have a split, but I might hang that thing on the wall of my garage. I wouldn't pay 50 Euros but someone might make it worth the seller's trip to the post office. I know this is a whine thread but sometimes you guys can be whiny!
