It's a Hebmüller replica based on a split beetle.
What is it that you don't understand?

...and judging by the pictures, it looks very well done. I would roll that! (if I had that kind of money to spend) |

What's to whine about?
From the outside it looks like it should. Now you just have to add the rest of the parts. The top will be a challenge with out a real one to copy. But, aside from that, the rest is doable. I liken it to rebuilding a Rometsch (sp?) If you know where to source the parts, you can finish it up nicely.
So why does anyone need to whine about this???? |

I don't see paying $20,000 for a *fake* Hebmuller, regardless of how correct it looks.
That and I thought we should have an Official 'whiner' thread like the other fora- _________________ Cheers,

I see your are from the North. That explains a LOT.
Nobody said owning old cars was cheap. Or frugal as the ones say where you come from. Just add it up a bit:
$1000 donor roller
$1000 basic paint
$17,500 for 500 hours (about 3 months) of work at only $35 per hour
Aside from some dank place in Asia, you ain't gonna get it done for less. Even if you did it yourself, it is going to several months. What's your time worth?
I don't care if it is recreated. It is still a lot of work. Whether you start with a damaged original or add new Heb specific parts to a donor like they orignally did. You just ain't gonna get it done for much less.
If you can show me where you can, then I might have them beat me another rare car out, just as well.
Sorry for the rant, but if you want good you are going to have to pay.
(PS: I just am beginning to get an idea of what it is going to take to get the 1945 I am looking into to the state similar to as shown in the picture. If I could only spend $20K to get it into paint, I will be happy.) |

judging by the pics , it seems that it is a replica indeed ,maybe he used the windshield frame from a pre 58 cabrio and the body from a split ...
what i certainly will never know , is how many did he build ...
sent him several emails because since i am living just 150 miles away from him i could buy one of them ...never a valid response ....
also , why he never manufactured a top ?? with his skills , a top would have been a piece of cake ....... _________________ in my Garage:

If you mean Virginia, it's not the North - the Mason-Dixon line is technically the Upper border of Maryland/Pennsylvania.
That explains THAT.
If you mean where I was born, I am from the Northern part of Great Britain, yes. But I am not frugal in my pursuits of my VWs (see sig). I pay what I pay for my cars, parts, etc...
I can see your point on the labor (or labour where I come from). However, $20,000 for a COPY of a Heb is not in my eyes a price I would pay. I'll pay for good - but I don't think this is 'good'.
... this thread was meant to apply the thought of - 'what are these sellers thinking', not what I'm willing to pay for <insert car/car part here>.
Good luck w/ your '45. I hope it comes out just the way you imagine it. _________________ Cheers,
Dave

I hope mine turns out like that and for only 20K US
Thats about 11k GBP at the moment and its based on a real split. OK, You could say he could have restored the split instead of chopping it up but lets face it, I´m assuming he's saved another Vdub from the wreckers and he's done nothing different than the Heb factory did to an OG split body to make an OG Heb imho
So, has this guy made more than 1? |
