I've got a little situation on my hands, after driving my super which has a 1776 in it, and the chrome treatment it is hard or almost imposible to start. For instance the other day while driving aroun in the hot weather, on surface streets and the frewway I killed the engine and about 5 later got back into the car and it was so hard to start.

I figure that maybe the started is heat saturated, but i do not recall this ever happening with my old stock engine prior to the swap.

Some engine stats might help;1776
dual 40mm kadrons, 099 compufire pointless ignition,100 cam, merged header and Kymco fat boy..any help to this frustating and some what embarasing little problem , other than that the engine pulls hard an has never been overheated. the engine has about 7000 miles on it. thanks for your time;)

I have this same problem on my '72, but mine isn't souped up like yours. I've always thought it was a choke problem. My Solex choke has a ceramic heater which I think cools down faster than the hot engine, so you get too much choke for how hot the engine is. Does that make any sense?

Just so you guys know the coil is new, but maybe the location of it might be the problem. I have Kadrons and the coil is mounted onto the center part of the linkage. It very close to the alternator and maybe i should mount it on the fan shroud. What do you guys think. I have also seen MYLAR type Covers that are supposed wrap around the starter to protect the starter from becoming to hot. I wounder if anyone knows about these? Any further andvise will help. thank you.

Timing that is advanced to much will make hot engines hard to start. Also, keep the fuel lines from laying on the head tin. May not be the proplem but it won't hurt. Good luck.

Gsanto,
A better description of the problem would help. When hot, does the motor spin quickly when you hit the starter, or is it real slow, like a dead battery? If so, then it could be your starter, bushing, etc.

If it spins as fast hot as it does cold, then problem could be fuel or ignition related. You never said what you had your timing set at, so MeanIrishMofo may be right on the money. It'll be hard to start if it's too far retarded also. If you were getting 'vapor lock' from the fuel line laying on the head, you would notice it while driving also, not just starting. Heat Insulated covers for the starters work.
