| I just had the carb rebuilt on my 71 super and had the distributor, wires, plugs replaced. I also had the valves and timing adjusted and I still have a really hard time to start the car after it's warmed up. I have to pump the gas and hold the pedal down and keep the key turned to get it going. It aways starts, but it takes about 5 seconds before it fires. After it starts it runs great. When the weather was sub zero (im in Canada) the car started with the first turn of the key. It has the stock 1600 engine in it. My mechanic said that it may be that the engine needs a rebuid, but the car runs great with plenty of power. I've sunk major money into this bug since buying it this past winter and I'm looking for a cheaper solution than an engine rebuild. Any suggestions? |

First, find a new mechanic.
Second, adjust your choke.

| Clay is right, it sounds like your choke is out of adjustment. Also, when you start it after it is warmed up, don't pump the gas. Just push the pedal gas pedal to the floor and turn the key. I found that tidbit of advice in an original 1972 bug owners manual. And it worked for me. |
