There are certain rules that must be followed in the barndoor forum:

1. When we are talking about badgers, talk about badgers.
2. When we are talking about prairie dogs, talk about prairie dogs.
3. When we are talking about "29" part numbers,.....

You get the picture.

But seriously, do you think that is a part number or a date code?????

Interesting that the later nose cone has the "29" and the earlier does not. Any chance one or the other of yours were changed out?

I am sure mine is original.

I am interested in seeing more photos of the '53 nosecone as it looks the shape may be different as well. And what are those 2 holes in the lower right?

Sorry to go off topic ....
I think this is because early 53 used an odd box, its a unique small style case same as the early ones and with full crash box internals (no syncromesh on any gear) but with no upright filler and the later style rear mount. I think the nose cone is different too- i was making a nose cone gasket for mine last night and i'm sure those holes are there.
Just so you can picture it -Here is one im rebuilding for a spare for the Kempes right now (jan 53 dated gearbox).

Shape appears different and the ribs are taller on the later nose cone. The holes are probably vents if I had to hazard a guess.
I should check my Feb 53 BD SC trans to compare.

Those numbers are not cast. they are stamped in. I doubt that these hinges are cast at all. They probably are forged or heat-formed sheet steel !

Here is my recently aquired BD synchro trans nose cone.
In comparison to Everett's piece mine has the last digit a 1 instead of his 2. Probably stage of engineering, as obviously there is no left or right to this part.
The one in the back is a standard non synchro from a split bug as discussed in another thread.
