I think it came from a '54 Panel, exact age unknown.

Yep, this is the same as mine.

Recently I could get hold of this very nice cargofloor mat, partnumber 29A.132.621 1 plus the VW logo on it. I will put up a few fotos in the BD gallery.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/502321.jpg

The mat is really in very good shape compared to itīs age and itīs purpose of usage.
I cleaned it and gave it to my tyreshop to have professionally vulcanized the few minor tears it has. (Donīt worry, they are Vintage car lovers, too, they will handle it carefully).
Anyone has an idea how to moisture the rubber again and give it a more glossy and black look again?

I have used Glycerine:

This is right after application, it soaks in and is not so shiny.

Thanks Everett for sharing your idea, I thought the same already, but I was unsure if it might get too slippy and gripping for dirt and dust...on the other hand Glycerine dries out quickly, so these effects are not a real concern. I have Glycerine, I use it for new rubbers in doors to make them close more easily.
My tyreshop guy is recommending a THIN layer of black shoepolish (counts also for old tyres...).

i also think we came to the conclusion that this part was used on BD optional rear hatch(same mechanism as later decklid) according to the latch that was on Dannys hatch. maybe check other hatches for the same Question

Since we have some pics of a rear cast-aluminum emblem, thought I would share a couple of the companion front emblem. Part number is 29 318 001 I think...It's a bit difficult to read.

From this thread it looks like there were at least 3 manufacturers for the mats; Fisco, Continental and Phoenix.

Yes, that is a cool logo. It actually looks like a volcanic island. Check the waves in the foreground. I thought it would make a cool Surf Shop logo.

Has anyone noticed the the ribs around the shifter hole on the Fisco mat just fade out and the ribs on the Continental mat are "cut off" by the ring around the shifter hole. So many minute details, nobody could possibly know them all.

I didn't notice that but very interesting. Trying to avoid copyright issues?

early speedo 29.158.001.1 I wonder if the .1 at the end denotes 'second source supplier' (ie: Veigel)?

Shocked WOW! Same one that is in my bus. Mine is stamped as a sept. 50, but it is not the original one that came in the car.
