|
|
I picked up my van from the shop yesterday and drove on the highway for a few minutes. When I got off the oil light came on.
The oil light then turns off as soon as I give it Gas.
So idleing = oil light
driving or any gas given at all = no oil light
Im stumped???
I am planning on going on a trip tomorrow will I be ok?
ps...oil cable was disconnected when I bought the van and this was the first drive with it reconnected.
Thanks for any help! _________________ 1984 Westy

if the engine is cold, is the oil light on at idle? or only when really hot?
how much do you have to rev it for the oil light to go out?
is it consistent?
could either be a bad oil light sender, the engine is low on oil, or real low oil pressure.
check the engine oil level right away!!! |

It only comes on once it gets warmed up.
It is not constant..only at idle
And even the slightest bit of throttle makes the light go away.
I just had the oil changed...but ill check the level _________________ 1984 Westy

What filter and grade of oil? Some people have success with using an OEM filter (mann or mahle) and 20w50 oil.

I would have your oil pressure checked right away with a gauge.
Need to rule out low oil pressure. |

Ill second that, dont run the risk (like i did) of trashing your motor because of questionable oil pressure. I instaled the oil pressure kit from VOLKS-cafe, i like it. Some might say it gives you another thing to worry about, i say its pretty valuable information. _________________ Clark
