Are Barndoor heaters any different than the ones used up to '59?

Yes. They have their own fuel tank and are gravity fed so there's no fuel pump.
Check my gallery photo's for pics.

I'm suspecting you got that off the '53 Kombi I had at one time that seems to have shed some parts passing thru different owners. The 1954 date matches anyway.......

Maybe. Mine came from TX but doesn't have any silver paint on it.

BDM's is a '58/59 unit if I'm remembering correctly. It looks just like the one in my '56 subhatch.

I haven't seen one with the gravity feed like that before. The unit looks identical to my '55 heater aside from the fuel delivery setup. I'm betting the wiring and FPR/Carb. are the same too. I can send you a PDF file of the instruction manual I found for mine if you're interested.

Yo Whitey.........here is one shot of it? I don't know much about it? Now I am confused cuz Eh Greg first said it was an early one, now he is saying it's a 58 - 59? It's junk any way! It's going to the trash! (here's now when Eh Greg hits me up for it!) I also got one of those timing devise things for it? Though I was informed it wasn't the correct era? Again, it's junk too! BUT..........it is a cool looking devise/mechanism. It needs a little fixing. I'd like to show it to you this June, THE TIMER!, and see if you can fix it or just make it look pretty?? Oh, one more thing.....it's missing that bake-lite fuse cover thing. Eh Greg promissed me one, but you know how that goes. Is there a replacement one? Beetle or something else??

I don't think the one on my Standard will be too difficult to clean up and make look pretty. I don't care to fix it, just make it look pretty. Again, you can check this stuff out in June? If your down for the Master Race BOY!!!

STAY WHITE!!!!

Eh - Greg.........the more posts you post, the more I start to think you are actually Linda in disguise!!!! Shocked

If I didn't know you i'd say that plugging that heater in there wasn't very white of you, Son!

The cover from a 4 fuse bug box will work on that. I can go through that heater quicker than the prince of Costa Mesa through the Samba classifieds but my mits are too big for the intricate parts of that timer! Rope burns turn to scar tissue ya know.

I justr downloaded 8 Screwdriver albums on my 'POD, gotta run- church is in session!
