We tried to turn over the 72. The torque converter is spinning, but the engine isn't?

Either someone removed the bolts that hold the torque converter to the drive plate, or the crankshaft is broken.

We just towed it home w/sea blue rebuilt never fired engine bolted in. I can see the flatish flex plate next to the roundish torque converter. I guess I better pull the engine to see what the PO left out!

Why don't you check to see if the TC is bolted to the flex plate, before pulling the engine?

Not seeing how you can get the TC spinning if the engine isn't running (unless it's by hand from the access cut out). If so you should be able to check the bolts.

good luck

The flex plate is NOT bolted to the torque converter! I can spin the TC and see the bosses for the bolts. I guess I'll lever the engine around to find a bolt hole on the FP.

Exactly. Maybe they just didn't bolt it in.
Sounds like this should be my car, anyways... hopefully you haven't yanked the FI yet?

what kind of bolts did you use for the flex plate,?

if you use normal non hardend bolts they will stretch, come loose and start to machine the back of your engine case (dont ask me how i know)

I might have exaggerated a little. We're only getting gas squirting out of the right carb. It was popping back like the cap wires might be wrong? We quit there yesterday, but I'm gonna get back on it this morning. How long do you think the car has been sitting? The gas smelled like varnish, but we just dumped more gas in it to dilute it. PS Mark is the PO
