Get a hold of a wire diagram and be sure you've connected everything right. We all make mistakes _________________ BLTN (Better Late Than Never) San Jose, CA http://www.bltnvw.com

Sounds like a bad ground. Its called the rental trailer sydrone. Hook up a u-haul trailer and if the ball and hitch don't have a skookum connection, the lights will do all kinds of weird stuff. Grab the trailer and rock it back and forth and as it gets a good ground, things start working correct. _________________ 1967 Bug (Second owner) |

Believe it or not, I was a lot boy for U-Haul---my first real job after being asked to "leave high-school" and never return. That was the most common problem hooking up trailers---had to shake the bejeezez out of them to get a good connection. You'd turn on the left blinker, the right would come on, etc. It was a good lesson as I owned a baja that had horrible grounds. And then there was my 73 Monte Carlo--what a yacht. Evey time it rained out, the grounds would go crazy. I'd shove in the cigarette lighter to fire up a joint and the damned horn would honk. Turn on the headlights and the dome light would go out. Geez I'm rambling....old age.... _________________ 1967 Bug (Second owner) |

A bad ground is a bad ground. Whether a bad connection between a trailer and hitch or a eletcrial connection on a car, it can cause a ghost problem such as what he described.
That or his damned car is possessed by the ghost of my ex wife. _________________ 1967 Bug (Second owner) |

Ah kent, you're a regular John Muir! Or he could drive down those cobble streets of that rich neighborhood you live in. That'll shake loose all teh wiring connections! _________________ 1967 Bug (Second owner) |

I had the same issue, my turn signal switch had a short. I replaced the signal switch with a good used one. I have a 61 rag |

It's the ground. I just fixed the same exact problem on my 65. Hit the brakes and the front passenger side turn signal would come on. Did a little exploring and found I wasn't getting good ground to the passenger side rear taillight assembly. Clean up the connection and it's good as new. |
