Will post some pics when the floor's done. we got another few pieces in, and went over that with some lab metal (metal/filler stuff)
but i got some major news....
the other day my dad was talking to this guy about selling him the car lift that's sitting in our garage, unassembled and not being used. They got to talking about vws, when this guy says, "I got one of them vw engines, it's a 6 cylinder though, made by Porsche"
Turns out, it's a '71? porsche 911 engine
So my dad offers a trade, and he was more than happy to comply (+$).
He says it's complete, with transmission too.
Have to wait till next Thursday for him to bring it over, and get this lift outta the garage. (going to be the longest week ever)
...but if the engine is any good, it's going in the bus
I hope to god it's in good condition, because rebuilding it would cost a ton of $$$
Oh, and
Edit: Forgot to mention, i got the seal kit for my jalousie, so i will be rebuilding it tomorrow _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

Some pics of the floor repair:
Floor was too weak to fill the small holes, so more panels went in
Lab metal dried and shined:
Painted with rustoleum (wet):
Going to paint over that with a matching color, the rustoleum is too white
Not professional, a little lumpy, but i'm not falling through any time soon
Oh, how i wish it were thursday (i'm getting antsy) _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

hey everyone, I figured I'd update some things...
We got the Porsche motor a few weeks ago, and it was a total fluke
no biggie, i wasn't expecting it to be all that great condition (though i had hope)
So as far as the engine goes, I'll probably get a 1776 long block
Since we got the floor all squared away we haven't been doing much, because I've been in school and working mostly
But i came home from school yesterday and my father was busy doing this:
seeing it really got me motivated on getting my ass in gear and getting some more done
I'm going to make a table to put between seats, hinged under the window
anyone have any ideas on what i could use for a foldable leg? (besides a foldable table leg from a camper) _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

Wow! I must say, the slats are killer! I have a '77 westy and I need to put new panels in, after seeing your pics I think I may have to go the slat route, too. |

What are your plans for the wood? Paint or stain? |
The wood is getting clear coated, that should bring out the grain a little too.
I had this Idea for the table I'm going to make, to put a map of NH on it and pour a clear epoxy over it... but i couldn't find a suitable size map.
So my dad digs this out of his collectible stash:
Its a promotional map for the Ford Hotel (which is cool, cause my last name is Ford). I don't know exactly what year it was printed, but there are no interstates on it, and it lists hotel rates at $1.50 - $2.50 per person per night. So I'm guessing anywhere from 1926 - 1956
Oh, and I'll be using the North East US side
Edit: + I should be ordering some parts soon. i've got about $300 worth of stuff picked out, then another $1800 of parts for building an engine _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

Man you got some gold there with the vintage map and all!!When you clear coat thge wood the grain will stand up, be patient and sand it all down with 220 grit, blow or dust off the junk, lather rinse and repeat a few(3-4),this will give you a smooth and very durable finish.Home depot sellls a quick drying poly that I can attest to ease of use.Keep up the good work |

I know it's been said before-- but you are doing some incredible work there!
I bought my bus when I was 17, too-- despite the five years it was out of commission, it has been my pride and joy. Your hard work will pay off and hopefully you'll be reaping the benefits for ten-twenty-even thirty years!
Best of luck and keep the pictures coming!! |

Here's where i got the repair panel http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=AHS29
The wood slats came in bundles of 6 from home depot, for about $17 (give or take) per pack
we bought 6 packs and had some to spare. (I'll have to give credit to my dad for most of the wood work, he loves doing it, and did a great job).
For the ceiling we used steel sheet metal screws, because the brass ones we were using didn't work too well. It's just screwed into the factory roof supports (all of it counter sunk, and screwed in by hand because the wood is so thin). _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

Sounds like a plan man. I like the map tabletop idea. My hometown is probably on that big PA one. Good luck with it and I can't wait to see it all done.
