When I did mine I bought a 10 mm universal/ flex socket to get at the bolts on the tranny side. I bought a 3/8 drive one and it barely fit. I'd recommend one in 1/4 inch. The only other thing I recommend is to retighten the bolts after a few days. When I checked mine a week or so later (after finding an oil puddle on the ground) they were all loose. _________________ 1985 Diesel Jetta Coupe (temporarily retired at

If you can spend a little extra money and the car isn't going to get lowered go ahead and put the oil pan, gasket, and bolts from a '90-'93 2.0L Passat...it'll give you an extra 3/4qt capacity. Don't use threadlock. _________________ I love old cars |

The one you posted is the cheapo version. The Passat 2.0L 16V oilpan gasket is alot thicker (probably close to 1/2" or a little thicker) and has a piece of aluminum sandwiched between two pieces of rubber. Also just making sure you have the larger 5qt(4.7) oilpan. I did a 16V conversion on my '77 and used larger pan and gasket will both raise oil capacity but also aid in engine cooling and longevity. My engine is from a '93 Passat but all pans/gaskets are the same from '75-'98-ish. _________________ I love old cars |
