Plastic coolant pipes

Anyone tried to hammer in the metal tubes in the ends of the coolant pipes as described by Go Westy?

I did this when I first got my van. I installed the go-westy "coolant pipe repair kit". I had to soak the ends of the pipes with wd-40, let sit overnight, then applied a heat gun and rubber mallet to push the ends back in. This only worked on one of the pipes, the other cracked and I ended up replacing the whole pipe. Wasen't as bad as I thought, the pipe came from the dealer, they had it shipped from South Africa and the entire pipe was $110.
