VW Fact #776: Changes for the 1964 model year included: Knob-type plastic closehooks replace the metal hooks for safety.

ok so that came up when i signed in. Since I have a 64 what style of coathooks should I have? I thought it was the metal clip ones

Except the colors are different. Smile

Especially for '64, I think it's a one year only color to match the "early" interior pattern.

Wolfsburg West makes repros but I was not happy with the color. They are super white instead of off-white.

I bet they would yellow up a bit if they were left out in the AZ sun Wink

Don't know about as early as '64 but most '67s had the mount for an optional 3 point harness.

I don't know if it was common but my ex-'61 Kombi had them installed by a previous owner, along with most of a '61 Deluxe interior.

I don't believe they ever were from the factory. The body pressings for the Standards and de Luxes were similar enough that it seems most (if not all) Standards got the holes and nutplate so that coathooks could be installed.
I can't comment on Kombi's

Plastic repop parts, made in the wrong color such as those being "too white", can be painted close to correct using SEM. I use two of their colors. Either super white (deceptive name, as it's def. not bright wht.) or phantom white. $10 a can or so at auto paint stores.

Cool. Do you know which color White is the correct color for the rear hatch plastic spring covers?

Do some of you later model deluxe owners use the chrome hooks or just stick with the cheapo-plastic ones? (pics please)

I can't say I have done it but as far as I know the holes are in the same exact places so you can mount them.

You may have to use sheet metal screws instead of machine screws though.
