In December '06 I threw a few belts, blew the oil cooler seal and split a couple hoses, I thought catastrophic damage ensued so I bought my '04 Passat for the new daily driver thinking an SVX conversion was finally in order! Oh well the 'ol waterboxer just won't die, new belts, new oil cooler and seal, some new radiator hoses and she is back on the road for 2007 after a few months hybernation. While I was getting dirty and spending $$$ I did a few other mods I have been fawning over too:
My little man helping out with the hose replacement. Just doesn't get any better than that.
My version of the heater hose cut-off valve to eleviate competition with the A/C. Cost $11 in plumbing section at Lowe's hardware. 3/4" outer diameter.
I traded a Samba member my old shorty Wolfsburg springs for a set of original equip. VOTEX rack feet, had 'em powder coated and 78" huge THULE load bars with retractable extension is nice for Kayak/canoe loading with one person. Love it!
I know it is not exactly a Kombi, but it is basicly a passenger Van with Wolfsburg edition upgrades so hey. I just didn't want the standard VANAGON badge. Need something else to fill the extra holes, SVX badge maybe?
Mounted and braced the "FREE" broken THULE rack box, stuff all kinds of crap in there. I also wired up some passenger side scene lights for under the awning while camping. These things put out serious candle power when setting up grills or what-not. (Don't worry, no holes were drilled)
Couldn't go without adding some bling, clear turn signal lenses I think look good with the painted grill and other six clear lights.
Finally putting it all to good use at the annual Full Moon Bus Club campout at Ginnie Springs on cino de Mayo weekend. I think 20 busses showed up, splitties, bays and wedges, all represented! Along with gobs of scantily clad bathing suit wearing UF college girls + mdetro4660's gas power margarita mixer and blender=great f***ing time!
Hope everyone else is enjoying family and freinds and trouble free miles for 2007. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

Thanks Kevin,
She does us pretty well, I'd say ready for anything after the SVX motor and Syncro drivetrain conversion! _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

Hey you didn't show me the load bars at Ginnie! I only thought that Yakima had the insert for the bar, you have just made me very happy as I would like to use a pair of those on the Rack N Roll trailer. My idea is to have a premade tabletop to put on top of the bars when slid out making an instant table at the campsite, would go good with the onboard mounted grill, and a place for the blender
Oh yea, you still coming down this way to camp this weekend? If so there is a VW get together pretty close to Ft. Desoto on sunday at a really cool property (vw coachbuilts and military vehicles etc.. housed there). Were heading out tommorow night in the westies for the Mountains in NC, gonna ride bikes down a mountain, that should be interesting _________________ Markus |

We are heading down to Fort Desoto Friday night untill Monday noon. Should be fun, fishing the bay, mama and the kiddies like to hit the beach and shell hunt.
THULE extension load bars, yes they are sweet, a little pricey for what they are. I would be hesitant to put too much weight on them, bartending and cooking and everything from trailer height.
Have fun in the mountains of NC, be carefull. We'll be there for the High Country Bus Festival in July! _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

gosh thanks.
The side scene lights are just some cheap $25 fog lights from FLAPS zip tied to the rack, wire loom runs to the 2nd battery. Pretty basic set-up for a nice outcome.
The clear turn signals are from Van-cafe', I used the stock VW dual filament bulb holders though, I wasn't real impressed with the electrical hardware, oh well they look kewl. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

Love the rack system.
My rack for my Kayak won't do on the V.
Thanks for letting the moths in the wallet get agitated again _________________ Happy Trails!
