Here's another one from Canada:

You are welcome to post it if you want. I've owned VW's since I was in university in 1968 and always really liked the Sprint Stars, but could not afford them as a poor student. One of the first things I ordered when I found my 54 was a set of repros. 40 years later and I finally got a set of Sprint Stars. Even the repros are very rare in Ontario. Very Happy

Hi Guys:

First my story: Picked up a beater '71 Super about 8yrs ago for $400, with thoughts of a restore. In passing as I loaded her up on the carrier the guy says "someone told me the rims on her might be worth something". Fast forward about 8yrs and due to kids etc. said beetle has sat in storage. In the meantime I have a lovely '63 that I bomb around town in. This winter I have my '63 in storage and '71 is being torn apart in my garage. After a "free" media blast from a friend, the rims turn out to be 4 bolt Sprint Stars, with stamps saying Lemmertz and Empi and Made in Western Germany stamps plus some numbers. They are all now blasted and primed and I am wondering what to do. They are, shockingly, all in almost perfect condition with very minimal pitting mainly on backsides.

Questions: This may be stupid but for the painting of these things are you guys just using rattle cans?

Any idea roughly of a value for all for with just primer? They are all 5.5x15 and the stamp numbers all match.

I got a quote for powder coating. They said they would have to blast off the primer, then do the black, then the silver and clear, price would be $500 for the set. Does that seem pretty good?

Thanks for any advice. I'll try and get some pics of the rims posted if that helps.

Average price on the wheels goes for about $100.00 a peice in nice condition. The chrome ones go for alittle more about $125.00 a peice. I've been selling them lately though for $75.00 including the shipping and I just sold 2 of them after a long wait for a buyer I still have more to sell at $75.00 a peice but not much interest for 4 lug sprints at the moment Crying or Very sad (atleast now).

Yikes! I thought they were worth more than that.

Oh well, I think I might try and paint them myself and if a nice little Ghia ever shows up on my door I'll use them on that .

The 5.5" are too big/wide/offset for lowered VW's!

I don't think so Confused they have the exact same offset as the wide 5's that everyone rolls on Question unless they re-rimmed them and changed it to whatever application needed for there ride Wink

This when I ran a deep set of 4 lug sprints on 195/50 front and 195/60 rear and widened fenders. Shocked

I used a VW silver color for my wheel LA7W Reflex silver at my paint shop for $20/can and used hardware black for the center and I am satisfied of the result.
I paid my 5.5 $300 for a set of 4 shipped with the VW center cap included. I paid more ($200) for my 4.5 for 2 wheels without the cap to complete the combination that I wanted for my ghia from a friend.
Here 2 pics of the wheels. Note that now I have chrome nuts and studs that I found on the samba at $30 shipped.

Hi guys, I'm here again. I'm the owner of the webiste about Sprintstars!!!!

http://sprintstar.blogspot.com/

I just wanted to tell you that I'm really sorry if I haven't updated the website for almost 2 years, but I sold my beetle and I partially lost interest in the aircooled VW world.

Anyway, now I'm here again. I decided not only to start updating the blog again, but I have also in mind a lot of great ideas to improve the blog.

I want it to become the biggest resource on the web for sprintstars wheels, with technical information, with the pics of your cars, with your questions and answers and maybe with a Sprintstar community too!

I've just begun changing the appearance of the blog, so you will probably notice a bit of mess in these days, but there are already new posts and new beautiful pics so please come and visit us!!! Your visits are my greatest reward.

Of course the website is totally free. If you want to help me making the blog bigger and better you can just click on the ads on the page. It's free and fast for you but of great importance for the blog growth Smile

Some of the most important new features up to now (with MUCH more still to come):

- New home page appearance

- New facebook page (please come and visit it, leaving a comment!!!!)

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/pages/Int...1101131291

- New email address: [email protected]
You can send the pics you want to publish to this mail address, or keep attaching them to this post

What do you think about it? Do you like it? Will you come and visit us?

Well I think I have to say again I'm sorry for the 2 year silence. I kept all your emails, and day by day I'll post the pics I received in these 2 years on the blog, included the ones you attached to this post.

So, once again, come and visit us!!!! http://sprintstar.blogspot.com/

Ive just done a set of 4 lug Sprints for my Ghia. 4.5's all round and am pretty pleased with then. I had a pair of 5.5's and they were no good for the rear when lowered. The 4.5's up front required a little clearancing on the casting on the front calipers.

There are a number of pics on my blog .... apologies for not posting them, but I have access restrictions at work!

www.clemsblog.tumblr.com

Smile

I have wide 5's on my Westfalia ... these are the BBT repros.

I was thinking about a new set for my buggy. Since the steel ones use stock type lug bolts how about putting the bolt caps seen on the late Bug sport wheels on them? The lug bolts are in a black area and I think the head size is the same on early and late lug bolts (but the threads are larger on the late ones.)
