Getting everything in order to host and attend our 33rd "Buses Nowhere Near The Arch" VW campout event on Labor Day weekend. All four of my Transporters are going with family and friends driving them, so I spent a day pulling them all out and starting them all up, checking fluid levels on each (steering box, brake fluid, transaxle gear oil levels and of course engine oil levels) and topping off any if needed. I checked/adjusted the air pressure in the tires and spares too. I think they are all pretty much ready to go on the two hour one-way run to the VW campout.

Working on my lower nose area and finally found out why it rusted at the seam, there is an opening at the seam which allows moisture to breath and cause rust. I seam sealed it and primed (those photos to come) and will paint today. I also brought out my other German vehicle after 10 years in storage because the bus blocked the entry of my garage. I had so much fun on the bike I didn't get as much done on the bus. Then while in my driveway I saw the UPS guy walk this package to my neighbors house and I noticed wow that looks exactly like a Westy roof rack bow (which I just bought from a samba member). As he walked over I shouted out my name and yep it was mine and he didn't read the address correctly. So cool to notice your bus parts all wrapped up. What a cool obsession.
Last part I needed for my rack which came with the bus

That is the plan! I have a camper interior from a 70 tintop westy that I am debating fitting into it as well. _________________ 1952 Zwitter

I love splitty buses at stock height or higher, with positive camber to the rear wheels (what else are swing axles for?). The bus is supposed to be a vehicle for adventure, for traversing rugged logging roads and fording shallow streams. I've driven neighbors in my '64 Sundial camper over flooded roads where they were afraid to drive their ground-hugging US cars. Lowering a bus makes it common and of lower utility. And don't even think about giving the wheels a negative camber, ugh! |
