Started to take the roof rack apart and rework the wood and alloy rails. Sanding with 240 Grid and a nice teak oil bath...
Transformation: from grey over sanding to the same beam after teak oil treatment (light oil, not colored!).

I learned about different push rods lengths for the fuel pump. Some how my 50 year old pump died and the new Danish made pump would not pump, rooting around in my good junk collection I found a 8mm longer push rod. Works just fine now.
One of the latches that holds the drop sides up was seized but with lots of "P" oil they all work now.
moovit I lubed all the hinges and door lock assemblies even did the hand crank handle.
One flip and it was purring
then gave Ruff a half a wash job
cheers

The logging company, would that have been on Lasqueti Island? Lived the first several years of my life on that island, my dad was logging. In the later years he told me of a frenchman that had a VW single cab on the island at one point. Interesting....but yours looks a bit too new though? |

Thanks everyone for you continued support and motivation. With school in full gear I hardly have time to work on anything but my plans are getting her to one of the best airhead VW mechanics in my area for a valve adjustment and get the stock exhaust/newish heater boxes in. Yes I can do it myself but school has priority and I want my well known expert to sort it all out and teach me how to maintain his work on my own. She is loud inside because of no interior but easily gets into each gear flawlessly and everything sounds and operates properly although she has stalled out several times at stop signs & lights so she needs to be properly sorted out.
Joe of Auto Imports has been working on VW's since his family started in 1965. I'm very excited to see him again as he was a regular in my hardware store in the 70's. Glad I brought my bus over to my neighbors Scott & Elizabeth the other day as Scott highly recommended Joe. Scott has a 67 bus and a beetle also and I love talking to him about repairs, my hidden agenda is to get Scott & Elizabeth to get their VW's back on the road I wish I took their photos as they were beaming with happiness when I brought my 67 over, I'll get photos of them next time.

Went from this...wires hanging down on the left, main charging wires hanging down over the alternator pulley in the middle, and breather hoses everywhere...
To this
New fan belt. The old fan belt broke and wrapped around the alternator pulley and hit the main charging wires, which shorted out the alternator. So the alternator is new and the wires have been rerouted away from the pulley. I rerouted the other engine wires and the breather hoses to make a less cluttered engine bay. |

Did some upgrading today on the 1963 Bus...
Got all the brake system in the front off and ready to go. The adapter I got from CSP does not work on the quality German master cylinder. Will chuck it up and mod it on the lathe at work tomorrow. Read to assemble next weekend. Then on to the back. All new brake components for the front and back.
Kind of glad I decided to do this job myself. Now I can understand this beast better.
It is amazing how malleable the old brake lines are.

Been there, done that. Remember to put the drums on before pressing the brake pedal _________________ Andy
