Well, ended up feeling quite bummed a couple of days ago... Sad

While I didn't get to "fix" the bucking issue with the 2276, at least I "removed" the problem. Having thrown everything AND the kitchen sink at it without resolve, at least I determined that the issue was within the Dellorto carburators in that they would become very rich as soon as I opened the throttle just a little bit. It idled just fine and wide open would run like a bat out of hell!. So after swapping in and resetting the Webers, it smoothed out to near perfection! Razz

However, after running a couple of "blasts" at up to about 60 mph with the safaries open, I was backing into my "drive through" and then CRACK! Shocked

One of the Dormobile tops had popped open just enough to catch on the top frame! Yep! Busted into pieces and wrecked the closing latch. Crying or Very sad

After attempting to order new ones from the UK, decided to see if I could at least make something to cover up the open hole. Went browsing and Idea

Found these pans which measured damn near exactly as the plastic covers! Surprised

Figured if I can make one might as well make two! I installed the top around 15 years ago and just as I was installing the covers I cracked them too! Rolling Eyes

They had been holding together but always thought of replacing them. Well, now's the time. Here's the pan next to the surviving cover:

While the width and length were right on, the depth was a bit too much. So I broke out my trusty plasma cutter and went to town! I did use a cutting wheel to do the corners though.

Here's the first one after straightening out the latch and installed:

The second one was a bit quicker and easier, of course:

No plasticky sh!t anymore, stainless steel baby! Cool

I could powder coat them since I do have what it takes... but why? It's stainless! Razz

Anyway, got this to cover the sharp edges as well as making them look cooler even! Cool

That ^^^ is what we call a "2 inch full pan" for a Chafing dish or steam table, way to think outside the box and customize the Dormy !!

It seems we all need that horrible sound/ feeling/jolt of FUCKING Up once in a while to keep us humble, for me it was 2016, backing out of a guys driveway in the "City" of Burlington Vt., backed into his '02 jetta beater because the streets are "narrow" in the city Rolling Eyes and I just was not paying attention, pumped up that I scored bay middle & rear seats for $100.... Laughing Embarassed Rolling Eyes

It's a terrible feeling indeed when you know you went "too far" and done phucked things up! Mad

So I had to put in some work on it BUT, replacement covers are over $45 each and them guys in the UK with the Dormobile website, well, it sucks! Mad

Unlike any other business website, you just CANNOT pick your part and place an order. You have to either call them (overseas) or email them about your order. Then they do not ship anything until they receive payment for such! Emailed them a couple of days ago and have not gotten any reply as of yet! Rolling Eyes

Only cost me about $35 for the 2 pans! Wink

I broke the thing a couple of days ago and already I got it fixed! Still need to order the candy striped vinyl replacement though and they are "sole source"! Confused

I love your solution... Those UK guys can't match our 'Yankee' ingenuity...

That stainless is going to heat up big time. You may want to paint them white, maybe with that white roof insulation paint at Home Depot

I also do some powder coating so that may be happening too! Wink

For now, I’m happy to drive it without a hole on the roof! Smile

Glad everything panned out for you. I wonder if you took an old one to Ridout ePlastics what they'd charge you to melt a couple. I know they have a minimum that's pretty radical.

Did you buy a kit or are you building this from scratch?
