What is the craziest thing you've ever done in a car?

4wd aint crap, when i was coming down stevens pass in wa state, bout 2am, i hit a patch of ice, the truck spins around backward, hits a guardrail, scrapes along at 15 -20 mph backward, im white knuckled to the steering wheel, steering doesn't work with the brakes locked up, foot buried the brake pedal to the floor. i realize that i'm now out of guardrail, i'm still moving and the sliding on ice is now sliding on sand and gravel. drivers side slides down the hill and now things get fuzzy. probably adrenaline,.... i remember the truck rolling twice. my friends that were following said 7 times. anyway, next thing i know the truck is upright about 200 ft down. the roof is partially collapsed but the back window is missing so i crawl out. i dont know if i passed out or not. i can hear screaming and someone is crying on the road i just slid off of. i was trying to climb back up to the road but i couldn't see very well, too dark. i just headed to whoever it was that was shining down a flashlight screaming i was alright. snow was really slippery and cold. i couldn't make it all the way up to the road, so i stood for about 45 minutes. someone called state patrol and rescue. i was pulled up with a rope. other than whiplash and slight concussion i was fine. the next morning a tow truck pulled the truck back onto the road. i had to buy a back window and used my feet to push the roof back into shape, but truck ran perfectly, didn't even need an alignment. it was listed as a total. i relicensed it and drove it everyday since then. its been sold twice since then and has just been given back to me. both other owners have had accidents in it and walked away unhurt. since you can't total a total, the insurance company just shakes their head. i think its a lucky truck, no one was ever injured. i think it needs an alignment now but with 245,000 miles on it, still purrs like a kitten and is back in my driveway again.

When I was 19,I had a 66 Chevelle SS396.This car had a brake line break and then I had NO brakes at all.This happened in my local town and I lived 13 miles away.It was an automatic tranny too.I ran 3 redlights to get out of town and drove all the way home.No e-brake either.

I spent almost a decade trying to recreate Kerouac road trips: 90-98. My ride at the time was an ol Jeep. I remember (I think) a trip to NYC from New Orleans in the snow with the top down for 1/2 the Northern states, old t shirts stuffed into the rust holes in the kick panels... surplus tank driver hats on me and my shotgun man Josh, Nina Simone soundtrack and a lady in waiting...

We also bailed out a pal that weekend from the pokey so he could go work for the feds as a reformed hacker. I think we went out for pizza. NO stops on the trip up or return just gas and driver swap. Minithins for us, a quart of oil for the straight six.

That Jeep was tough. Sadly, now RIP...

Straight numbers would have been when I drove 126+ mph in an ex-girlfriend's 1990 Nissan Maxima. We burried the needle somewhere north of the Florida panhandle and then hit the CRUISE button. That was fast. It was like "bullet time" in a video game.... tunnel vision, altered heart rate, autopilot...

It was late summer near dusk, her mix tape on the cassette deck (Front 242, Pixies, Nitzer Ebb, Smiths, Connels). We both had some nice sunburn from the beach and were sharing a can of Coke. That was a good trip.

She was fast... the car too.

Coming down the Montana Rockies through McDonald Pass in a logging truck at night. The truck had leaking air brakes and no dash lights. The chase driver gave me a flashlight so that I could watch air pressure and instructions on what to do if I lost all air. I was to drive into the bank to scrub off speed and then turn the truck to the right as I bailed out so I wouldn’t get run over. I geared down and tried not to use the brakes; a very quick trip down the mountain.

Years ago my buddy and i left Dayton,oh about 1am coming backto Tenn,he driving his 68Dodgecharger and going to lead IF i could keep up.I had a 57ply ht with the same engine he had(he didnt know at the time) and as soon as we cleared last lite at topof hill in so-Cinn oh we let em roll.Very light traffic and lucky-no fuzz,as this was avery fast trip to Corbin,ky on I-75,most of timei was too scared to check speedo,and ONLY time i ever had speedo on 120mph.Had a tire blown,just dumb-ass stuff u do when young.

At a camping trip, 3 of my friends (4 cars in a fleet;)) Smoke boxed my bug they wrote green mobile on the windscreen, till this day it won't come off, everytime the sun shines on it, it appears...

me and a friend were bored so we decided to start up the 66 f100 in the back next to the shop and drive it around so we grabbed a battery out of the shop and put it in along with a gallon of gas (i live in the middle of nowhere)so we we drove down to the creek on the way back my friend asks can i drive(my mistake) so we are driving down a dirt road and right as we are pulling onto the road he floors it under corrects getting it on to the road and drifts a little on the gravel on the other side of the road the back tires reconnect with the pavement and the truck shoots forward straight into a ditch i was calling him all kinds of bad words YOU DUMB A$$ MOTHER F%@KER YOU DUMB SOB and other words .he didn't get mad at me though i was happy i was fearing for my life because my grandpa loves that truck luckily though it drove right out of the ditch and has nobody damage my grandpa was curious as to why the right front tire goes flat and the batter has a hole in it but he doesn't know and i would like to keep it that way

I used to have a trick where you could take an old chevy ( I had several) and line it up on the railroad rails. Just hold the steering wheel straight and drive down the rails for miles - the curved surface on the rails apparently provided a pull to keep the tires lined up on the rail and the tread width was perfect.

I became so confident in doing this that I forgot about one thing - I had no idea if there was a train coming. The last time I did this, I lined my car up on the rails at a crossing and my buddy riding with me objected. So I backed off and cruised down a country road running parallel to the tracks.

Two miles later we met a fast freight that would have took us headon - HOLY SHIT!!

drove around one night with 5 people inside my super beetle and a 6' 3" guy in the trunk

took my ansen equipt 54 oval "ralley racing" on a curvy dirt/gravel mountain road chasing my buddy on his 650 dirt bike.

50-60mph with tires spinning and was sideways almost the whole time.
would have sucked if i went over the cliff

Way back before I was even into vws...I was about 17 and had my acura integra, a whole bunch of friends and I decided to go have a bonfire in Santa cruz... Long story short one of my buddys was driving his vw gti 1.8t and I was in my integra and we made it back to San jose from SC in about 18 minutes. My integra topped out at 151mph and his gti at 137mph(it was stock so the governor won't go past that). We all made it home safely , and now I own a bus and enjoy my rides slowly.

two stories here

First i raced a Ford Focus Svt in my 90 Corrado g60 on the Freeway in sunday afternoon traffic, we got to 130mph I was using all 6 lanes and the shoulder to stay ahead, we decided to slow down after a while exchanged a friendly wave and then minutes later passed a chp on the side of the road! Had a lot of fun but was insanly stupid when i think back to it.

The other story was when I was driving home from a road trip to so cal. We were in my 71 super on the 58 through mojave and it started snowing, not that bad right? but the worst part is i had 135's on and they were bald! talk about scary ride.

i was crazy (and stupid) when i was younger. back in the late 80's i drove a 69 bug for over a year with NO brakes, not even an emergency brake. it was fun, i lived in a small town then and i knew where the hills were. and of course, like everybody else seems to do,i railed some girlfriends in it.

Oh man...

In southern california there is a road called the Ortega Hwy, or hwy 74, which streches from inland to 30 miles of windy road to orange county.

On this same road, there is a lookout spot looking over lake elsinore, and a little parking area, a restaurant and porta potties.

One night, my drunken friend and I came around and decided to stop at this lookout coming back from a party in oc. When I got the brilliant idea of ramming the porta potty off the cliff with the bumper of my then 02 lancer. I backed up, then went about 25mph to a dead stop before my car went down the mountain side, ramming the porta potty and watching it fall to its death.

Every weekend I hit these porta potties, and the next day as I drive back to oc id see the crane picking them up and it gave me some sort of weird satisfaction. A few weekends passed and finally they got smart enough to chain the porta potty to the restaurant. This didn't stop me, and I hit the thing and it fell down but only on its side because it was still chained to the restaurant. Grrrrr. I hit it again, making a big dent in my front bumper. Oh well it went down further but not much. I just went home bummed.

Drove my 57 ragtop on its sunny maiden voyage to Bug Show in Grand Bend. Show was cancelled due to incoming rain. Driving back from Bug show it f****n poured - harder than I've ever driven in before. It was then I discovered the roof leaked - ok...collapsed. The wipers didn't work and even new cars with functioning wipers were pulled over. I had a pond in my seat, a lake at my feet and lose items were occasionally floating within arms reach. The rain had stopped by the time I reached the GTA and the car was now clean on the outside, inside, underside and places where the sun just doesn't shine. These cars are definitely not water tight.

I took a rusty 73 super with loooose steering and barely any power down a 65 mph highway after a few minitues to get to 65 and a few more running at it I came to my turn off and began to stop, with only the front brakes working. It wouldn't idle and smoke was pouring out, I bet the hobo On the corner was even laughing. Needless to say, it's getting a new engine. I know my story's lame but when your 16 and it's probably within 10 of your first solo driving experience, it's pretty intense.
