Sitting in the driveway of a local abandoned house. It was in the barn until that fell down, and then was in the driveway for a few years.

I left my name and number on the windshield and got a call back about a week later, so I've delayed its transition to "earth".

This is the third Tangerine '72 Super I've owned, and they've all been faded to primer red.

Last week I decided to follow up on a lead on an old Beetle sitting in one of our regional parks.

After work I headed out with a general description of where it was located. After a short while I could see this from the trail :

Hmm… doesn’t look too good Sad

Kinda ugly to get to with the damp ground and overgrowth.

As I get closer… what the heck ????

A freshly cut tree?

The poor Beetle !

Looks like it’s from around the 1960-1964 era

It obviously has been sitting in the woods for decades unscathed until some "clown" tree faller decided to see how good his aim was and
fell a tree right through it.

Guillotined and crushed

The tree was freshly cut so I bet I was only a few weeks too late Mad
Close by a large maple tree had fallen across the trail. It was cut up and cleared off to the side. There was no visible reason to take out this particular tree. It was healthy and well away from the trail. What a shame.

Is it just me does that tree not look large enough to do that much damage?
Maybe the Bug was already messed up?

I did say WTF on cutting that tree down though and I agree it looks like they tried to target the Bug

Today I went to a junkyard that I heard had some VWs. There is a huge section you can’t see full of VWs, but I saw these 3 busses and a ghia. None for sale, can’t get parts off of them. Can’t even go look at them, I was disappointed I drove a ways to go there. I didn’t think to ask if I could buy anything when I called the junkyard.

Another day, another adventure. A VW friend of mine told me there might be some VWs in the woods near me. I was able to find them. All the beetle were 63 or older, a 66 Fast back, and a 69 Squareback. All rotted to nothing. A few hood parts I might get.

Good shots, Ceckert. Trees/brush blooms are still underway so you can see the cars between them. Ghia or Bus air cleaner on that 36 hp engine; on those models the air cleaner was positioned over to the left. Shame that the VWs are wasting away after obviously many decades. Bullet front blinkers together with '65 style on the one cut-down Beetle.

Thank you! I thought that was where the air cleaner was from. The guy said he drove all but one of these VWs around at some. The Squareback was his wife’s and was parked due to computer issues. The cut down bug was an oval but the person that told me about this area helped get the oval roof I think. I think I’m going to try to pull out the fastback as it isn’t completely gone and it is in decent shape.

Those wide amber turn signals came out on the 1964 models, at least here in the west coast of USA
