... and I live in seattle so thats a problem.
I just got my new westy home today Ill post some pics when i can. I have a 78. My first question now is the wipers. When I push the switch up to turn them on I can hear the motor humming along a constant sound but the wipers dont move, the parts i found in my bently have trouble shooting if the motor doesnt work or works slowly but i couldnt find anything about the motor running just not moving the wipers. Any suggestions ? |

Check the wiper arms first/make sure they are tight,Then check the linkage at the motor assembly. At least you can hear the motor run. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

take off the black boots on the arms and see if the shafts are spinning inside the arms. Its the plastic cap at the pivot of the arms. If nut is turning and the wipers not, you just need to tighten it. Or it could be a missing linkage under your dash.
curiuos, I was removing my wipers for the first time today to paint them, and could not find any instructions in my bently. none whatsoever on wipers function, no diagrams, etc. could you tell me waht page it was on? _________________ [email protected]

Check that the shafts are not siezed into the pivots, mine were turning the whole assemblies in the seals where they come out of the body. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Ok So I can see the wiper motor on the bottom and when i turn the switch on it hums and hums faster on the faster setting, I cant see much and i am afraid to feel around and chop my fingers off.
What i have learned, The wipers first seemed locked down but i pull lightly on them a couple times they go free back and forth a couple of times then lock in the up position, pull back and forth lightly again they go back and forth a few times then lock down, i can do this over and over it doesnt matter if the motor is on or not it does the same thing, and the wipers do move together so they are connected and when they move they move freely. |

..So it sounds like the nut is loose,or fell off at the motor where the linkage is connected. it's a tapered shaft. Do you have a mirror that you can use to look up there and see? the nut head is 10mm. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

Untill you figure it out..... RainEX!
Apply a double coat about once every two weeks or less. I never use my wipers, and my glass is nice and unscrached because of it. _________________ 1977 Riviera |
