He also has Bavarian Rennsport and works BMWs in Ramona. I had the worst luck with Mr. Holmes. I brought a freshly built 1914cc engine, by a well known VW engine builder, to his shop to be installed in my '64 Westy. He was upset that he didn't build the long block, so he had an attitude. The first issue was he couldn't get the engine installed. He was trying to jam it in straight. With a VW engine, you set the two lower bolts and just tilt it up to line up in place. Instead, he insisted the engine was bad and ground down the trans housing because the flywheel rubbed. But, it wasn't the flywheel, the engine was jammed in out of alignment. Next, he crossed the wires on the engine and burnt the entire wiring harness. Then he dismantled everything and left it in pieces. He is condescending, arrogant and keeps reminding you that he's a "professional mechanic". Finally, after continued problems at this shop, I realized that "he" is the problem. He goes off in miss-directions, searching for answers and tries to sell you extra parts to keep his shop wholesale parts quota. In the end I had to tow my Bus out of his in Shop in pieces to avoid him destroying something else. I strongly suggest you avoid this shop.

Sorry to hear this, Rob, after all the engine "stuffing" you have done, and all the work on VWs, I am surprised anyone would try to pull the wool over your eyes. And on a Bus, all that needs to be done is to remove the back apron, and I know for a fact your old dual-carb Single Cab engine would come right out with the carbs still attached to the engine..if there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to call or e-mail...
