Just in the middle of refreshing a 78 westy and was wondering if anyone with a CHT gauge has compared temps with the EGR connected and disabled.
EGR is designed to lower combustion chamber temps to reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen, I'm wondering if disconnecting it contributes to valve issues and head temps..

..In the 78 the main concern is making sure the Pintle in the valve is free to move .and yepp if it gets stuck open you can raise head temps,as well as an increase in NOx. and unless you run it on a BAR. 90 smog machine you will not know even if the engine runs smooth. So i would say, clean it and replace the 2 gaskets.and keep it on the engine for awhile in case our Laws change. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |
