found some okume 3mm paneling and had some stained made to try to get it close in color.
first piece is done...not too bad. I'll spray it with a stain clear finish.

How are you cutting it?
I had a dickens of a time with the thin plywood, splintering, chipping... I pretty much had to sculpt it into shape with sandpaper... |

I clamped the old piece onto the new paneling. Then using a router with a guide ring and straight bit the same as the outside diameter, followed the old piece cutting very smoothly the new piece. I worked slow so not to chip it and it cut it very nicely. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

I'm going to be doing this myself pretty soon. How did you match the color on the stain? I like the look of that a lot! _________________ 1977 Westy

Went to Daly's in Seattle and had it color matched to the old panel colors providing them with a sample piece of the new ply to test on. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

That looks pretty close. I eyeballed mine, and it came close as well.
I used a jigsaw with a very fine blade to minimize chipping. To also minimize chipping (splintering), after I traced the lines (on both sides of the wood), I used a box knife and cut in just inside the lines. This will confine the chipping. I then used masking tape on both sides. _________________ '76 Deluxe Campmobile |

I used a utility knife with a new blade to cut the panelling. No splintering and easy to cut
1/8" birch plywood is available as a product called door skins from good lumber yards

I used a bosche jig saw blade on my 3mm birch paneling. The teeth on this blade were straight and fine. It did a real nice at preventing splinters and splits. You can get these at Home Depot in the tools section.
Very nice color match!
