Ok guys. I may have found the correct radio for my bus. My 67 kombi originally had a Blaupunkt Emden radio. The only Emdens that I have found on the internet for sale are Emden III's which came out in 68. Well here's a 67 radio (correct knobs and everything) and it has the same part number as the later Emdens (minus the letter at the end of the numbers), which leads me to believe that this is an earlier Emden radio, and more importantly, it's the right one!!! The part number is 111 035 103. Can anyone comfirm that this is a 1967 Blaupunkt Emden radio?

Blaupunkts have date codes starting in 1956. The first letter of the serial number on the paper tag on the side tells you the date of the radio

Quote:

1956 - 1957 - K
1957 - 1958 - S
1958 - 1959 - G
1959 - 1960 - Q
1960 - 1961 - D
1961 - 1962 - E
1962 - 1963 - T
1963 - 1964 - U
1964 - 1965 - V
1965 - 1966 - W
1966 - 1967 - Z

Another quick thing to look for are the Civil Defense marks on the dial. These were used by almost all US Radio manufacturers between (approx) 1953 and 1963. Since your radio has those markings (the little triangles) it was probably made closer to 63 than 66. But since the radio would have sat on the dealer's shelf a while earlier is still OK.

My Blaupunkt has a part number of 111 035 101, with 67 knobs and the VW logo on them. Is it in fact a 67 model. The serial number starts with an X from Wolfburg.

There were no paper tags anymore. The only markings at all was the part number. 111 035 103. Thanks for the input so far.

Yes, it is a 1967 model. 111-035-101 is a 1967 Wolfsburg, 111-035-103 is a 1967 Emden. The difference is the bands they receive. Wolfsburg for 1967 has AM and long wave (LW not used in the U.S.), while 1967 Emdens are AM-FM. Emdens were made by both Blaupunkt and Grundig for VW, and both are very similar externally but totally different internally.

Everett has the radio tech bulletins here .... note the later ones are listed as 1966 bulletins but reference the new radios from August 1966 (1967 models)

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/techbulletins/e5.php

If you need a speaker plug to fit, send me a PM. If you don't have the Blaupunkt speaker mounting bracket for the bus, you can use a Sapphire bus speaker bracket. The Blau bracket mounts with a screw through the dash on top, the Sapphire mounting screws are under the bottom lip of the dash.

It's hard to see in your photo but It looks like it has a B serial # prefix?
Or it says 7 630 081?

B or 7 630 is 1970 production so there is a good chance that is an original radio.

There is a larger serial # listing that what is above here in the Forums

It does look like a "B" serial # so I believe what I said above applies.

1970 production would be very easily be in a 1971 VW
