Anybody heading up to Red Rocks for the Widespread Panic shows this weekend? Stop by for a beer if you're in the lower north lot!
Panic at Red Rocks a few years back in the Action Van, my second '85 Vanagon:
Panic at Winter Park '06 in the current Vanagon:
There are usually tons of Vanagons, bays, splitties, and stepchildren, uh, I'm mean Eurovans, at the shows...I probably see more of them there than at VW shows, although most are in pretty sad shape... _________________ Joe T.

that would be my westy..
It's suppose to be two tone, but really it's a paint chip from home deopt with the five shades of brown on one paper swatch.
My favorite, "Sunset Rust"
Maybe I'll see you out there. _________________ "z's house of boxer" |

A whitebread picnic, actually
RHPaw, did I see you chugging up to the top lot yesterday?
There were a good many Westies out there this weekend. Met some nice folks. _________________ Joe T.

It's that time of year again...
If you happen to find yourself at Red Rocks on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, please be on the lookout for this:
Or this:
With these folks:
At this spot:
Or maybe a bit further up if I get there too late:
My twin will probably be there (met this guy up at RR many years ago and our Westy production numbers are from the same month, crazy):
We'll be vigorously preparing for a whole bunch of this.
We'll be on the road next to the Lower North lot. Come by for a beer!
My wife and friends always know when a Sambanista comes to visit...They all roll their eyes when we get into the intricacies of tire selection. _________________ Joe T.

This is bigger than a national holiday for a bunch of us old farts who have too many responsibilities to travel for concerts anymore. Plus, it's an open house for Vanagons and buses. Compliments and good conversation galore.
It's funny, people will scratch and claw to get a seat in the Vanagon for the ride up and back, even though it's hot and slow and uncomfortable.

We'll be there Saturday in our Pink Flamingo '84 (and probably my '77 baywindow or our '88 Westfalia or even one of our beloved "stepchildren").
Probably going for Upper North though. _________________ -------

I used to park up there--that lot is easier for walking into the amphitheater, but it's hell getting out of the park after the show. As DD I prefer to get out as fast as possible so I can get to the house and unwind.
Hope to see you! I'll be the middle-aged white dude.
Edit: They were stepchildren in 2007, now they're old and cool just like the rest of 'em. _________________ Joe T.

Sounds good, bud. I may end up down in lower NOrth as well-- spent time there over there years in our Baywindow and always run into Vanagons there too.
I"ll be the other middle-aged white guy (the one with a sleazy mustache, as is my tradition for WSPRR) _________________ -------

We had a great weekend up at Red Rocks. The Vanagon performed flawlessly and the band tore it up.
My new 60 watt panel, Group 27DC battery, and new house wiring handled the fridge and the full-blast stereo for tailgating on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday without issue. The back seat USB ports for phone charging were extremely popular as well.
There were very many Vanagons in the North Lower Lot, more than I've seen in a long time. I spotted four or five different bronze beige metallic '85-'86's, several air-cooled, and a perfect white '90 Westy with very cool owners (who are hopefully coming to Solstice next year, if I didn't scare them off.)
In a move that would make most Sambanistas puke, I temporarily mounted my solar panel in the roof rack with two pool noodles, a camping pad, a ratchet strap, and a bungee cord. I'll take pics today before I take it apart. Happy to report that it worked flawlessly.
Prep:
Friday:
Saturday:
Sunday:
Shelter from a quick rainstorm:
I ended up with two coolers, a raincoat, two LSU cups, a woman's straw hat, a black baseball cap, a bottle of moonshine, two camp chairs, and an Iphone charger in the Tatanka Lost & Found.
All in all, a great weekend. It's pretty clear to me that while the Vanagon is great for family camping and traveling, it's really been purpose-built to cart people to Red Rocks and back. _________________ Joe T.

Sorry I missed ya on Friday. We ended up parking Pinky about 200 yards from your van towards the back of lower North but nobody was there by the time I got around to heading into the venue.
Parked Pinky in lower south on Saturday and got lots of love from passers-by, though. _________________ -------

Time to do this again!
Widespread Panic's 50th show at Red Rocks is Saturday. Wear gold.
On the road next to the North Lower lot, come by for a beer or eight. _________________ Joe T.
