I just put in my gearbox after having the reverse gear repaired and noticed that the left drive flange seems pretty loose, it chucks up and down. Shocked Is this normal? From what I can see in the Bentley, there are tapered roller bearings on either end of the diff so I don't think there should be any movement there. The right side has no noticeable play at all.

Not sure about the circlip as I didn't put it together. There is no noticeable endplay from flange to flange so I think the diff bearings are OK. It seems the looseness could be between the flange and diff splines. I thought these flanges were a pretty tight fit, maybe these are worn for some reason. I will mention it to the rebuilder this week.

I may be preaching to the choir, but I would certainly hold off on all the labor of putting it back in until you get that resolved.
