|
|
My wife son and I having been finally using our 82 Westy for its intended purpose. However, we have run into a problem when it comes to sleeping. All three of us have a tendency to move around and take up a lot of space while sleeping - which is not good.
So I was thinking that it might be possible to cut a piece of plywood, rest one end of it on the two front seats which would be turned facing each other and rest the other end on the end of the folded out bed. Then put some of that egg crate foam on the plywood for the mattress. From the looks of things it would provide a decent sized sleeping surface for a kid or small adult.
Anyone try this? If so, what were your results? |

Sounds like a new concept in sleeping discomfort.
Give it a shot, let the list know how it works out.
Take your chiropractor's card with you---someone in the family may need his help after the fact. _________________ T.K.

Some of the earlier models had slots for stretcher rods , a bit like a hammock but you use canvas instead . These are a lot more comfortable and much easier to pack away . |

Didn't those work in a manner that was parallel to the front window? |

Did the Vanagons ever have that option? I think it was a pretty standard Westy item in the Bays and a rare but available option in the Splitties.
The cot does run parallel to the windshield and and from pillar to pillar behind the front doors. In my '73 I had to remove the headrests from the front seats to use the cot, but the Vanagon seats seem to recline enough that you probably wouldn't have to. My daughter used to sleep comfortably in the cot in the '73.
How about a couple eybolts above the door so you can string a hammock? I'm just kidding... mostly. |

I will send some pics once I have it ready. Should be pretty straight forward and with a decent mattress surface should be as good as the standard lower bed. Just gotta get some 3-4 inch thick foam that could be covered in the same manner as the stock westy mattresses. |
