| tire rack was the most helpful. If you search all available tire sizes, rim widths are in the tire specs. |

| Bring back and old post with this one... I just pick up a set of Turtle backs and they are pretty rough. They all have some decent curb rash and a sizable chunk out of one. What do yall think is a good value of a set of 4 with out caps. That way I can gauge what I am willing to invest in some restoration of the set. |

There are several sets to chose from in theSamba Classifieds Parts - Wheels / Tires ...
Look under Superior Industries Wheels or Volksmag. |

Has anyone ever seen turtlebacks with whitewalls?
I'm due to buy some tires, considering some (narrow stripe) whitewalls.
Probably a terrible idea, but I figure if they look goofy I can just remount them with the whites inside. _________________ this '71 Ghia coupe is now in the hands of another. |

I realize I'm in the minority, but I love whitewalls. I endorse the idea for skinny stripe ones on your turtlebacks! Not sure I've ever personally seen it done, but I like the idea--please follow up with some pictures, if you indeed go thru with it! Beautiful Ghia by the way! _________________ Stock Steve

Anyone know the best way to restore the black finish on these? Mine is heavily damaged after years of PO abuse, some curb rash, etc.
Id like to restore the black colour. _________________ 1972 Super Beetle, Parked until adequate restoration funding is acquired in restoration!

Crazy discovery! There are two different types of turtlebacks.
I have both types
The painted yellow ones have a larger center hole, and the wolfsburg center caps do not fit them. Its an 70mm hole vs 60mm on the silver ones.
The other difference is that the yellows have a rib on the backside while the silvers do not. The rib actually causes some clearance issues with disc brakes, and I had to grind the rib away in places.
Does anyone know if center caps for the larger hole style ever existed? I was hoping to put these caps on my yellows and am quite disappointed. _________________ 1972 Super Beetle, Parked until adequate restoration funding is acquired in restoration!
