Judging from the above picture, of No. 10 Downing Street, London, one might be forgiven for thinking that Tony Blair, the outgoing British prime minister, has swopped his ministerial car, for a British specification, yellow & white coloured (my favourite!), 1974~79 VW Type 2, with trailer-towing hitch!?!

This composite image, featured as part of an advertisement, in today's editions of various national daily newspapers (including the Daily Mail and The Independent), for the Norwich Union insurance company, promoting their scheme, for upto 5 years no-claims discount, for ex-company car drivers.

I wonder how many other famous individuals, own & drive 1968~79 VW Type 2s, by choice? Martin Clunes, the television comedy actor, who lives in south Devon, England, has two, with sliding doors on either side, which were featured a few years ago, in Volkswagen Camper & Commercial magazine.

Regards.

Very cool shot! Thanks for sharing Nigel. Maybe this in Tony’s new “retirement” ride!

Before you feel too bad for Tony Blair, or think he might have to buy a fixer-upper Baywindow, have a look at this:

http://www.inteldaily.com/?c=174&a=1997

Plus free rides to "the Ranch" on Air Force One! I'd bet we won't find Tony in the market for a CHT gauge or a 'correct' VDO clock for quite a while, although it would be great to see him and 'dubya' both behind 'jail bars'. Whatta photo op!

Good choice of rides to kick back in after leaving the PM. He's now a special envoy. He's going to be driving his bus around the Middle East, from capital to capital, leaving peace in his wake (as opposed to what he's been assisting with for the last 4 years). Maybe now he can take Georgie along for a ride, to return the favor. (There's someone who should be familiar with wakes by now.) Cool

Maybe they would both like to make an extended visit to that little holiday camp in Cuba; sited in Guantanamo Bay, I think!?!

Frankly, I've been pretty disgusted with some of our politicians' apparent freeloading, at the tax payers expense!
